Candidates in Ho Chi Minh City have just completed the 2025 Grade 10 Math exam and finished the exam after 2 days with 3 subjects. The Math exam has a time limit of 120 minutes. This year's Math exam has 7 questions. At the exam council of Nguyen Huu Huan High School, Thu Duc, candidates finished the Math exam in excitement.
As for teachers, speaking with VietNamNet, Dr. Pham Hong Danh, Head of the Basic Mathematics Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , said that this year's Math exam was easier than last year's and similar to the sample exam that the Department of Education and Training had previously announced. The question data was concise and easy to understand, not lengthy and difficult to understand like last year.

With this test, students can breathe easier, there will not be a scene where half of the students score below 5 points like last year and before. If students have done the sample test, they will definitely do this test effectively. Among the 7 questions, there are some relatively difficult questions at the end of the test, but if students have a firm grasp of the knowledge and learn math creatively, they can completely do the test completely.
Mr. Lam Vu Cong Chinh, a teacher at Nguyen Du High School, said that the 2025 Math exam for 10th graders in Ho Chi Minh City was suitable for students and in line with the 2018 generaleducation program.
This year's exam has a new part, question number 3, about the chapter on statistics and probability. In question 3a, calculate the percentage and in question 3b, students need to pay attention to calculating the probability of the event.
The exam has condensed the questions so students need to pay attention. In general, this year's exam is quite similar to previous years because the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has a roadmap to include practical problems in admissions, so the exam is familiar. However, this year the problem data is concise, easy to understand, not as cumbersome as before. The differentiation questions are 6b and 7b and c.
“Overall, this year’s math exam was good, able to differentiate students well, and was not too difficult because students were familiar with the elements of real-life math problems. The expected score range is 5.5-6 points,” said Mr. Chinh.
According to Mr. Chinh, the possibility that half of the candidates will score below 5 points this year will not happen. Because this is the first year of enrollment under the 2018 program, students have already become familiar with practical math. The exam questions are close to the program and are suitable for the students.
Mr. Tuan Anh, Thu Duc High School also acknowledged that this year's Math exam was easier than last year. It is expected that Math scores will improve significantly.
According to Mr. Tuan Anh, in terms of exam structure, questions 1 and 2 are basic math (2.5 points); Questions 3-6, practical math, 4.5 points. Question 7, general plane geometry, 3 points. The number of questions in 2025 is 1 less than in 2024.
The content has been reduced, but the number of questions requiring students to do is the same (about 15 questions requiring students to calculate and reason to answer). The types of math questions in 2025 and 2024 are similar, so students do not feel as strange as in previous years when the exam structure was changed.
The 2025 math exam includes problems on parabolic graphs, solving quadratic equations and Viet's theorem, modeling problems related to calculating area, data analysis problems, problems on rotating surfaces (spheres), problems on motion, and plane geometry problems.
In terms of difficulty and differentiation, due to the reduced content and the requirements in each idea of the problem seeming lighter, overall, the 2025 Math Test is lighter than the 2024 Math Test.
“It can be said that the 2025 Math Test is easier than the 2024 Math Test but still ensures differentiation for students. Because, to get good scores, students not only need to have good math knowledge, know math formulas, and standard calculation skills, they also need to know how to apply math knowledge to handle real-life situations (practical applied math problems account for 4 questions, equivalent to 4.5 points). Some difficult questions are in questions 6 and 7,” said Mr. Tuan Anh.
According to Mr. Tuan Anh, the Math exam for grade 10 in 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City has reasonable adjustments in structure and content, in line with the 2018 general education program and the city's 2025 admission requirements for grade 10. Reducing the number of questions and stabilizing the required knowledge content helps the exam become more balanced, while creating opportunities for students to demonstrate their true abilities.
The 10th grade exam in 2025 will be the first under the 2018 General Education Program. Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that the math exam will include the following knowledge streams: Geometry and measurement; numbers and algebra; statistics and probability. The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities: Mathematical thinking and reasoning; mathematical problem solving; mathematical modeling.
The exam will require students to apply their knowledge to solve practical problems; encourage self-study and creativity, avoid rote learning; help students orient themselves on some necessary knowledge and skills when entering high school. The exam will only have 7 questions, one question less than before.
