Candidates leave the examination room with relief.
Emerging from the exam center at Nguyen Chi Dieu Secondary School with a relieved smile after the final exam, Duong Minh Bao Quyen, a student from Chu Van An Secondary School, said she felt quite confident about her performance. Throughout months of preparation, her biggest worry was that the exam might be too difficult or include unexpected question types. However, after completing the three exams, Bao Quyen breathed a sigh of relief as this year's exam questions were mostly within the curriculum she had studied. Having applied to Hai Ba Trung High School as her first choice, Quyen predicted she would score around 9 points in Math and English, and over 7 points in Literature.
At some examination centers, many candidates left the exam rooms in a fairly relaxed mood. Many commented that this year's exam questions closely followed the curriculum, were challenging but not overly difficult. Ho Cong Vinh Thanh, a student from Thong Nhat Secondary School, said that he registered Gia Hoi High School as his first choice and performed relatively well on the exams.
Despite increased competitive pressure this year, many teachers and candidates generally agree that the exam questions for all subjects were appropriately challenging and maintained a stable structure. The questions were reasonably differentiated to meet the requirements of an entrance exam without putting excessive pressure on students. The questions were primarily based on the 9th-grade curriculum, closely adhering to the knowledge and skills standards of the junior high school program.

Commenting on the math exam, Ms. Nguyen Phuong, a teacher at Chu Van An Secondary School, said that this year's exam generally followed the content and curriculum taught, while still ensuring differentiation to serve the admissions process. Most of the questions at the knowledge and comprehension levels were familiar and suitable for the average and above-average students, allowing them to complete the exam. In addition, the exam still allocated about 20% of the points to differentiating questions to assess the abilities of above-average and excellent students. These questions required candidates to have logical thinking, the ability to synthesize knowledge, and the flexibility to apply it in the exam.
Ensuring fairness and safety for the exam.
The entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year has 18,002 registered candidates at 48 testing locations. Compared to the previous school year, the number of candidates increased by more than 5,000, significantly increasing the competition for places in public high schools this year. According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, 186 candidates were absent from the exams.
Many schools have high competition rates, especially those located in central areas. For example, Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted in Hue received over 2,241 applications for only 450 places. At Hai Ba Trung High School, the number of applications reached 1,787 for 704 places. Similarly, Nguyen Hue High School recorded 2,006 applicants for 704 places, including all three preferences…
Faced with the pressure of a significantly higher number of applicants compared to previous years, the Department of Education and Training proactively implemented exam preparations early on. From organizational plans and personnel arrangements to reviewing the physical facilities at the examination sites, everything was meticulously carried out to ensure the exam was conducted safely and in accordance with regulations.

Observations at the examination sites showed a serious and orderly atmosphere. Before the exam papers were distributed, invigilators specifically reminded candidates not to bring mobile phones, technological devices, or other prohibited items into the examination room to avoid unfortunate violations. Outside the examination area, police, medical personnel, youth union members, and support staff were present from early morning to ensure security and order, manage traffic flow, and assist candidates and parents. Electricity, water, and medical facilities were also fully prepared, contributing to a smooth, safe, and incident-free examination.
Mr. Nguyen Tan, Director of the Department of Education and Training, stated that the Examination Steering Committee has fully prepared the necessary conditions to ensure the exam takes place safely and seriously. All stages, from printing and transporting exam papers to organizing invigilation and marking, have been implemented according to the procedures and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. The general spirit of the education sector is to organize the exam in an objective and fair manner, accurately assessing students' abilities and quality. Students who study diligently, have a solid grasp of the knowledge, and make an effort will achieve good results.
Thus, candidates taking the entrance exam for 10th grade at public high schools in the city have completed their exams. However, candidates wishing to apply to Quoc Hoc Hue Specialized High School will have their specialized subject exams tomorrow (May 28th).
