Nicolas Jackson moves to Chelsea in the 2025/26 season. |
Under the deal, Bayern paid £14m upfront to loan Jackson and would be forced to buy him outright for £56m if he played 40 games. However, President Uli Hoeness insisted that would “never happen”.
“There is definitely no long-term contract. The clause only activates if he starts 40 games, but that will never happen,” Hoeness declared.
Di Matteo immediately responded: "If he scores 20 goals for Bayern this season, do you think they will buy him? The season has just started, let him prove himself. I don't believe Bayern have made a final decision."
According to Di Matteo, Chelsea were too hasty in letting Jackson go: “He is a hard-working, good striker. He may not have a natural goal-scoring instinct, but it is completely possible to perfect it.”
In fact, Chelsea were forced to pave the way for Jackson to leave after signing Joao Pedro and recalling Marc Guiu from Sunderland to replace the injured Liam Delap.
Meanwhile, former centre-back Frank Leboeuf believes Bayern have a different plan: they will keep Jackson under 40 games to avoid the obligation to buy him outright. “If he hits 39 games, he will be held back, benched or dropped from the squad,” Leboeuf said.
Jackson, 24, was Chelsea's number one striker last season. He scored 30 goals and provided 12 assists in 81 games for the west London club - figures that show great potential, but his future at Bayern remains a question mark.
