On the morning of December 21, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province coordinated with the People's Committee of Da Nang city to organize a ceremony to announce the completion of the project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of the national relic Hai Van Quan.

Hai Van Quan, located on the top of Hai Van Pass at an altitude of 490m, between Lang Co town (Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province) and Hoa Hiep Bac ward (Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city), was built in the 19th century as a majestic military citadel. This work is not only a historical witness but also a famous scenic spot in the Central region.
The project to preserve and promote the value of Hai Van Quan relic has a total investment of more than 42 billion VND, of which Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang each contribute 50% of the budget. Started on December 19, 2021, the project has been implemented for 3 years.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, said that Hai Van Quan has many cultural and historical values and is also a famous scenic spot, contributing to the tourism development of Thua Thien Hue province, Da Nang city in particular and the Central region in general.
Since 2017, Hai Van Quan has been ranked as a national historical and architectural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Having gone through many historical changes, Hai Van Quan has been a “witness” to many fierce battles in the national defense war of many generations of Vietnam. Affected by the harsh climate, this system of works has now seriously degraded.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said the restoration project has applied technological solutions such as smart check-in platforms, 3D technology applications, and free wifi coverage at tourist attractions.

In addition, Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang, together with the road management agency, will organize traffic on National Highway 1 through Hai Van Quan; deploy auxiliary items, especially service logistics areas such as parking lots, standard public toilets and souvenir display spaces to serve visitors...
“With its unique architecture and great military historical value, the Hai Van Quan national relic with its “unique” location has been attracting domestic and foreign tourists to visit and enjoy.
“Managing, preserving and promoting the historical, cultural and natural values associated with the Hai Van Quan national relic is an extremely important task, contributing to the economic and social development of Hue and Da Nang,” Mr. Trung emphasized.
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, both Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang have had a "historic handshake" to revive this area with a project to restore and renovate the Hai Van Quan relic.

This project is a priceless common asset, a symbol of solidarity and good cooperation between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city, a premise for the two sides to continue to coordinate well in promoting the value of relics in the present and future.
The leader of the Da Nang People's Committee also said that Da Nang City will continue to closely coordinate with relevant agencies of Thua Thien Hue province to advise the leaders of the two localities on plans and projects to manage, protect and promote the relic.
At the same time, connecting with historical and cultural relics of the Nguyen Dynasty and the historical event of the first battle against the French-Spanish coalition in 1858-1860 to create a meaningful tour route, an attractive cultural-historical address for tourists. Hai Van Pass tourism will make a positive contribution to the socio-economic development of Da Nang City and Thua Thien Hue Province, and is an indispensable stop on the "Central Heritage Road".
