During the holidays and last weekend, Beta Vinh Yen Cinema, Dong Da Ward (Vinh Yen) welcomed a large number of audiences to watch the film Tunnels - Sun in the Dark. With the "heat" of a revolutionary film that is currently attracting the attention of audiences, Beta Vinh Yen Cinema maintained 8 screenings/day for the film.

Not only Beta Vinh Yen Cinema, most of the audiences who come to watch movies at the box office are students. That affirms that historical and revolutionary films are never out of date, on the contrary, they are always interested and awaited by young people.

Beta Vinh Yen Cinema is always crowded on weekends.

Nguyen Nhat Minh, a student in Ngo Quyen Ward (Vinh Yen) shared: “During the recent holiday, I had the opportunity to watch the film Tunnels - Sun in the Dark by director Bui Thac Chuyen with my friends. Personally, I found the film very good and impressive, because it recreated the fierce war scene. Although we have learned and heard a lot about Cu Chi Tunnels, it was through the film that we understood this place better.”

The film is set in 1967, in Binh An Dong Commune, Cu Chi District – a place known as the “land of steel”. The Tunnels tells the story of a group of 21 stalwart guerrillas who stay underground to protect the secret tunnel system from fierce raids by the US military.

Under the command of Bay Theo (played by Thai Hoa), they not only face the enemy outside but also have to fight fear, despair and internal conflicts when being besieged in the dark. When the US army uses poison gas, fire and psychological warfare to sweep, the guerrillas are pushed to the limit. They have to choose between life and death, between sacrifice and loyalty to their comrades and to their country.

Recently, teacher Minh Hai and students of History class 11A9 - K27, Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted also spent time at Beta Vinh Yen Cinema to watch the movie Tunnels - Sun in the Dark. After watching the movie, students of History class 11A9 - K27 had a report of their feelings from 8-20 lines sent to the class group Zalo.

Students of History class 11A9 - K27, Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted spend time going to the cinema to watch movies.

According to teacher Minh Hai: “The film touched the students’ emotions when they submitted their assignments early, exceeding the number of lines required by the teacher. Even former students of the school, when they saw me posting about the movie viewing, also came in to share their feelings.”

Vu Ngoc Anh Thu, a student of History class 11A9 - K27, shared: “The film helps me feel more clearly the fierceness and cruelty of American soldiers and war, even though this is just a small slice of historical reality. With the group of 21 characters, although I cannot remember all their names, I must affirm that they represent the generation of fathers and brothers who fought bravely, sacrificing their youth for the ideal of independence and freedom. Through that, I understand more clearly the value of peace today.”

The film touched the emotions of young people.

Minh Hieu, a student of History class 11A9 - K27, also said: “The film truly reflects the brutality and fierceness of war and the spirit and the indomitable, noble fighting spirit of the guerrilla forces. They were willing to stay to protect the tunnels, determined not to reveal the secret. We have learned many lessons, including the work of building and protecting the Fatherland.”

Pham Thi Van Linh, a student of History class 11A9 - K27, expressed: “I felt the suffocating atmosphere and the life of the guerrillas in the Cu Chi tunnels. At the end of the film, although many people in the guerrillas sacrificed, we still released the American soldiers. This detail is very valuable, showing the peace-loving spirit of the Vietnamese people...”.

When talking about the ending of the film, Mai Phuong, a student of History class 11A9- K27, said: "... Ba Huong and Tu Dap - people who have just gone through a battle with so much pain and loss still choose to save the life of an American soldier who had just killed their comrades with a gun. That is not a timely action but shows humanity, clearly demonstrating the burning desire for peace of the Vietnamese people. The film is not only a cinematic work, but also a reminder of the past: Generations of fathers and brothers have hidden in the darkness so that we can see the light today".

Lawyer Khong Thanh Duy, a former student of Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted, shared: "I was really touched because many young people also went to see it like me. Regardless of whether it is a "trend" or not, but the young generation is interested in the past, what our ancestors went through is still a positive thing. War is a story of the past, but that past is a mirror reflecting today. Working in a high-rise building, looking at the crowded traffic, perhaps many people find it hard to imagine that just 50 years ago, also on this land of Vietnam, in such difficult circumstances, there were still people, at the most miserable time, still steadfast, determined for peace and independence of the nation".

According to Ms. Tran Thi Cuc, manager of Beta Vinh Yen Cinema, since the beginning of April, the number of audiences coming to watch the movie Tunnels - Sun in the Dark has been very high, especially on weekends, holidays and good times (from 7-11pm). Although Beta Vinh Yen Cinema has just started operating, the number of customers is increasing due to the beautiful screening room, competitive ticket prices (55,000 VND/ticket) and the facility does not increase ticket prices on holidays and Tet.

On average, Beta Vinh Yen Cinema welcomes about 10,000 visitors/month, and its revenue in April is expected to increase due to the appeal of the film Tunnels: Sun in the Dark. This film not only affirms the appeal of historical films, but is also likely to become one of the best-selling works at the Vietnamese box office in 2025.

It is known that after 6 days of release, the film has reached a revenue of more than 100 billion VND, bringing the film to the top position at the box office.
