On the evening of June 17th, Rap Viet episode 4 of season 3 officially aired, featuring many surprising contestants. Among them, Liu Grace stood out with her impressive musical style, a blend of playfulness, individuality, modernity, and a touch of eccentricity.
Liu Grace's impressive flow has led to four coaches vying to recruit her.
In fact, before joining Rap Viet Season 3, she was known as the owner of the hit song "Anh chưa biết em" (I Don't Know You Yet), which took TikTok by storm. Besides her unique flow (rhythm and verses), Liu Grace also possesses an impressive and rare vocal ability in the rap scene.
She was the only girl in this episode and also the only contestant to receive two golden hats from coaches Andree and Thai VG.
She performed "Little Nightingale," a revamped version of the song "The Nightingale." With her unique, fresh, and captivating flow, Liu Grace received immediate selections from coaches Andree and Thai VG within the first few seconds of her performance. At the end of her performance, she received all four coaches' selections and 80% of the audience vote.
Judge Suboi commented that few contestants can clearly showcase two contrasting styles like Liu Grace. Karik remarked that if Liu Grace simply adjusted the lyrics to be more unconventional, the performance would completely win over the judges.
However, Liu Grace once again caused a disagreement among the judges. Karik sided with B Ray, JustaTee chose Andree, and Suboi leaned towards Thai VG. After some debate, Thai VG and Andree threw out their golden hats. Ultimately, Liu Grace chose to join Thai VG's team.
Long Nón Lá caused a sensation by combining folk singing with rap.
Episode 4 of season 3 of Rap Viet also featured an impressive performance by contestant Long Non La (real name Le Hoang Long).
This contestant previously appeared on a comedy show, where they received praise from Tran Thanh and Truong Giang for their unique musical style. The singer, born in 2000, was also popular with audiences for songs such as "Corner of the Schoolyard" and "Old Corridor"...
Long Nón Lá delivers a fast-flow performance set to folk music.
At Rap Viet, Long Non La brought a musical style that was both modern and deeply rooted in folk traditions with his performance of "Land and Fire" (original song: "Song of the Noc Nang Field").
The contestant caused a sensation in the audience by combining rap with an impressive folk song from the Mekong Delta. Long Nón Lá's rap scored points for its novel approach, good fast flow, and clear lyrics.
Long Nón Lá was selected by coaches Andree and Thái VG, who pressed the button, and received 70% of the audience vote.
Coach Thai VG praised this contestant for changing his rap style 5-6 times during the performance. Being able to rap and sing well, Long Non La is a promising contestant.
Coach Andree also "really liked the way you combined a folk song with trap, you played trap very well, and your fast flow was clear."
When deciding which team Long Nón Lá should join, the judges disagreed. JustaTee argued that, given his folk music style, the contestant should be on B Ray's team. However, B Ray didn't press the selection button.
Ultimately, this contestant was selected by the judges to join Coach Thai VG's team. This is also the next piece of the contemporary folk art puzzle for this coach.
The contestant brought tears to the eyes of the coaches and judges.
Rap Viet episode 4 season 3 also features contestant Huynh Cong Hieu (rap name Dick, leader of the rap and hip hop group 'You're Talented').
Huynh Cong Hieu moved many with his personal story.
He brought to the competition a rap song titled "Huỳnh Kim Long," which tells the story of his father and the silent sacrifices he made for the family.
With his emotionally charged storytelling about family, Huynh Cong Hieu resonated with the coaches, judges, and audience, receiving 95% of the votes and three selections from coaches B Ray, Andree, and BigDaddy.
Huynh Cong Hieu emotionally expressed his desire to use the song to convey his feelings and respect for his father. Listening to the contestant's story, Tran Thanh held back his emotions, while Karik and JustaTee shed tears.
Karik said: “Why doesn't 'Cha Khong' (the original version of the performance) is a song I really like and listen to every day at home. Today, you brought the performance to the stage and delivered it flawlessly. At least it brought tears to my eyes.”
JustaTee was so choked up he couldn't speak.
JustaTee also burst into tears after the contestant's performance. When Tran Thanh invited him to speak, the judge even turned away to hide his tears.
At this point, Big Daddy spoke up: “I understand JustaTee’s feelings. His father is someone we all respect. Since we were kids, when we didn’t have money, his father spoiled us and let us make music freely. It’s quite sad that he fell ill a few days ago.”
At this point, JustaTee confided that he had previously refused to speak to his father and left home for days due to disagreements and a desire to prove himself. Only after JustaTee demonstrated to his father that he could succeed in his chosen path were they able to talk to each other again.
"Only when I had children did I understand what a father does for his child. But now, I'm sure my father...", at this point, JustaTee choked up and couldn't continue.
After some emotional moments, Huynh Cong Hieu was chosen by the judges to join coach B Ray's team.
Tez disappointed upon his return.
Besides the new faces, the return of Tez - a contestant who gained attention in the first season of Rap Viet - also raises expectations among viewers.
Tez's comeback hasn't quite lived up to expectations.
In season 1, Tez impressed with his incredible fast flow skills. Returning this time, Tez shared his goal of giving his all on stage and hopes to bring the most passionate and energetic performances to the audience.
However, Tez's performance didn't quite live up to expectations and lacked a highlight. His musical style was also judged as not particularly innovative or outstanding compared to his performance in the first season, nor to the overall standard of the show. He was only chosen by one coach, Big Daddy, at the very last moment.
In this episode, contestant Indiek's performance of "Wake Up" (original song: "Morning Exercise") earned him 3 button presses from the coaches and 84% of the audience vote. The judges decided to bring Indiek into Big Daddy's team.
At the end of Rap Viet episode 4, season 3, Coach B Ray's team added Cong Hieu, bringing their total to 5 members. Coach BigDaddy brought in two new contestants, IndieK and Tez, increasing his team to 6. Coach Thai VG acquired female contestant Liu Grace and recruited Long Non La. Andree did not bring in any new members.
