The deadline for candidates admitted to specialized classes to confirm their admission ended yesterday. After this time, the department locked the system and switched to mass 10th grade admission.
The admission score is the sum of three subjects: literature, math, foreign language and priority points (if any). Candidates must take all three subjects, not violate regulations, and not receive a failing score (0 points).
Candidates' wishes are considered in order. Based on the quota of each school, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City considers from top to bottom until there are enough students, the principle is that the standard score of the next wish is not lower than the previous wish.
According to many experts, this year's 10th grade benchmark scores in Ho Chi Minh City are difficult to predict due to many influencing factors such as the number of candidates taking the exam being less than 20,000, high and low scores both decreasing sharply, the competition rate decreasing, while the admission rate increasing.
With such impacts, this year is considered to have an unprecedented high chance of passing when the admission rate is up to approximately 92% and nearly 80% of schools have reduced the competition rate.
Specifically: 85/107 schools reduced the competition rate for regular 10th grade (accounting for more than 79%), 20 schools increased their quota (accounting for nearly 19%), only 2 high schools Tran Quang Khai and Quang Trung kept the original competition rate.
Schools that were previously in the top group in terms of competition ratio such as Nguyen Thuong Hien High School and Gia Dinh High School "fell out" of the top 10 for the first time with competition ratios of 1/1.36 and 1/0.96, respectively.
There are two distinct opinions on the prediction of the admission score, as many experts believe that the benchmark will increase by 1-1.5 points, while others believe that the benchmark will decrease. With the number of candidates achieving excellent scores decreasing, the benchmark score for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City fluctuates unpredictably.

Looking back at the 10th grade benchmark rankings of 108 high schools in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 shows that the 2025 admissions season will have fluctuations in rankings.
Last year, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School continued to lead in the 10th grade benchmark score in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 with 24.25 points, but down 1.25 points compared to 2023.
Following that are the next three schools with 23.25 points: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Nguyen Huu Huan, and Tran Phu High Schools.
Meanwhile, there are 34 schools that accept less than 15 points. A series of schools in Can Gio district, Cu Chi district, and Thu Duc city accept 10.5-12 points as entrance.
The lowest in the rankings are Binh Khanh, An Nghia and Can Thanh High Schools with a benchmark score of 10.5 points.

With this year’s scores, there are still more than 20,000 exams with scores of 3 points or less, accounting for nearly 9%. Meanwhile, according to the target, only about 8% of candidates do not have the opportunity to enter public grade 10. Therefore, many people are wondering whether the benchmark score will drop below 10.
The principal of a secondary school in District 1 said that this situation is unlikely to happen because lowering the benchmark score below 10 points would be an unprecedented move and not suitable for high school students' learning abilities.
According to this person, this year's exam is relatively easy, if 3 subjects do not reach 10 points, it will be difficult to ensure the learning process at high school. Candidates with less than 10 points should switch to vocational education - continuing education will be better.
Schools in remote areas, although their benchmark scores may be lower than those in central schools, are still expected to maintain a score above 10 points, ensuring a minimum level of knowledge for students to be able to study.
