Việt NamViệt Nam07/05/2024

The historic victory of Dien Bien Phu is a brilliant milestone of the Vietnamese people. That resounding victory has left many profound lessons, including the talented and creative leadership of our Party and President Ho Chi Minh who gathered, rallied, aroused and highly promoted the patriotism of our people and our nation.

From 1947 to 1953, our army and people continuously won many victories in the Viet Bac-Thu Dong and Border campaigns. To save the situation, the French colonialists focused on building Dien Bien Phu into a strong stronghold to attract and wear down our main force, while controlling the entire Northwest region of our country and Upper Laos.

With rugged mountainous terrain, movement was difficult. To ensure the conditions for the complete victory of the Campaign, the Resolution of the Politburo and the Appeal of President Ho Chi Minh were enthusiastically responded to by the army and people of the whole country, unanimously and devotedly to the Campaign.

Not only demonstrating intellectual strength, the Dien Bien Phu Victory also promoted the strength of the great national unity bloc, "all for the frontline, all for victory". In general, in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, the people of the whole country "contributed more than 25,000 tons of rice, 226 tons of salt, nearly 2,000 tons of food, tens of thousands of people joined the army, youth volunteers, frontline laborers...

After 56 days and nights of "digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels...", with careful and meticulous preparation and great determination, our army forces destroyed the Dien Bien Phu stronghold, a fortress that the French colonialists claimed was "inviolable".

Nearly 70 years have passed since the glorious victory, and the nation’s history has turned a new page. For the Dien Bien soldiers of the past, the images of the battle and the camaraderie in the midst of bombs and bullets are still fresh in their memories.
