This period is considered to be the peak of development of Nguyen Dynasty's royal art, so this palace converges the quintessence of royal architecture and decoration.
According to historical records, in 1845, King Thieu Tri built Bao Dinh Palace next to the Imperial City, with many structures such as palaces, halls, pavilions, etc., and of which Long An Palace was the main structure of this palace system.
During the construction of the palace, King Thieu Tri, who was famous for his love of poetry, had hundreds of poems carved and assembled on the interior and exterior of the palace, turning it into a unique museum of poetry.
After many events of the time, in 1923, King Khai Dinh issued an edict to use Long An Palace as the headquarters of Khai Dinh Museum.

The entire temple with a total ground area of over 1,000m2 is placed on a high embankment, curbed with marble and stone. The Long An temple frame is built by over 100 ironwood pillars placed on stone pedestals.
The original roof of Long An Palace was covered with yellow glazed yin-yang tiles, with nearly ten layers of tiles underneath, the roof divided into many layers to reduce the heaviness. The top of the main roof of the palace was decorated with a dragon's head wearing a pearl, the two ends of the ridge were attached with dragon's back, and the four corners of the ridge had dragon, unicorn, turtle and phoenix statues made of mortar inlaid with porcelain.
Many researchers consider Long An Palace to be the palace with the most beautiful architecture in the ancient Hue citadel and is currently the wooden structure with the most unique architecture in Vietnam.
