On October 2, the construction unit began erecting two temporary iron bridges at the first and last spans of Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge, National Highway 1 (HCMC) so that motorbikes can pass without being interrupted when the "genie" team officially raises the bridge's clearance.
A representative of the Department of Construction said that the work of raising Binh Trieu 1 Bridge to 1.08m had been completed. The remaining reinforcement and bracing items will be completed in November.
After Binh Trieu 1 bridge, the "genie" team continued to move their tools to Binh Phuoc 1 bridge to raise this bridge.
With the "bridge jacking" technique, engineers will install a hydraulic jack system under the bridge pillars and girders instead of dismantling or rebuilding. This system works synchronously to "push" the entire bridge, weighing thousands of tons, to the correct design height.
During construction, a temporary iron bridge was installed so that motorbikes could still travel normally (the first and last spans of the bridge were warped compared to the bridge approach road).
According to the plan, Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge will be raised by 1.25m, expected to be completed by the end of this year. Saigon Water Corporation is moving the D450 water pipeline running along the bridge to create a flat surface for construction.
The entire lifting system consists of more than 100 hydraulic jacks, each with a load capacity of 400 - 500 tons, synchronized through a central controller and monitored by computer, with a control error of less than 1mm.
Each time the bridge is raised, it is raised about 4cm. When it reaches the designed height, the bridge will be fixed with new bearings and pillars, the gap will be reinforced, then the jack will be "released", the load will be transferred to the new pillar and the load will be tested before being opened to traffic again.
Binh Phuoc Bridge 1 and 2 connecting National Highway 1 across Saigon River (connecting Thu Duc City and old District 12) has a lot of traffic every day.
Workers began installing steel stairs to access the bridge deck and girders.
Steel beams under Binh Phuoc 1 bridge will be reinforced.
Workers began installing a temporary iron bridge at the Binh Phuoc 1 bridgehead at noon on October 2.
Motorbikes will run over the temporary iron bridge during the time of raising Binh Phuoc 1 bridge.
Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge will be raised by 1.25m to ensure navigation clearance.
The bridge raising is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge is much lower than Binh Phuoc 2 Bridge. Previously, this bridge was hit by a train, causing damage to the main span girder.
"Genie" continues to push Binh Phuoc 1 bridge
Ho Chi Minh City first applied this "magic lamp" technology in the Binh Trieu 1 bridge lifting project, helping to "push" the giant bridge weighing 11,000 tons to a height of 1.08m without having to demolish it. With Binh Phuoc 1 bridge, the technology continues to be applied, this time with a lifting height greater than 1.25m, to make it easier for ships to pass.
