Having the opportunity to visit Thai Binh commune in early November 2025, we were impressed by the spacious houses and vast forests covering the hills. This is a clear demonstration of the change in people's lives in the area. According to information from the leaders of Thai Binh Commune People's Committee, the whole commune currently has 27 villages, 2,070 households with 8,129 people. In recent years, to support people in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction, the Party Committee and the commune government have focused on exploiting the potential and strengths of developing the hill and forest economy.
Mr. Dang Dinh Duc, Chairman of Thai Binh Commune People's Committee, said: Identifying sustainable poverty reduction as a key task, the Commune People's Committee has issued many directive documents and organized implementation. Accordingly, promoting the potential and advantages of developing the forest economy, the Commune People's Committee has focused on propagating, mobilizing, and supporting people to develop forestry such as planting pine and acacia; at the same time maintaining and developing the area of tea trees and medicinal plants; effectively developing livestock models and service businesses.
According to the results of the 2025 poverty review, the whole Thai Binh commune still has 40 poor households, accounting for 1.9%, down 11.25% compared to 2020. This is one of the communes with a low poverty rate in the province. |
In order for people to have knowledge to apply in production practices, every year the Commune People's Committee has coordinated with relevant agencies and units to organize training courses on science and technology transfer and vocational training on animal husbandry and cultivation. In addition, the Party Committee and the Commune Government have directed organizations and unions to receive loan capital entrustment from the Dinh Lap Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to help people have capital to invest in production. Up to now, the total outstanding loan programs in the commune are 107.3 billion VND, with 1,127 households borrowing. Poor and near-poor households in the commune use capital to invest in planting and caring for forests, effectively developing production models.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Viet, Thong Nhat A village is one of the typical households that borrowed preferential loans from the bank to escape poverty. Mr. Viet shared: Previously, my family was a poor household, with economic difficulties. In 2017, I was given the opportunity to borrow 100 million VND from the Dinh Lap Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to invest in planting and caring for forests and fruit trees. Thanks to the loan, my family has planted 2 hectares of acacia trees and over 300 Dien grapefruit and Vinh orange trees, and at the same time had capital to hire people to take care of 8 hectares of pine forest that had been planted before. In 2024, from exploiting acacia forests and harvesting fruit trees, my family has earned nearly 400 million VND. In addition, since the beginning of the year, my family's pine area has started to be exploited for resin. Now my family has escaped poverty.
In addition to creating favorable conditions for preferential loans, the Party Committee and the Thai Binh Commune Government also took advantage of support resources from national target programs to support people in developing production. Specifically, implementing the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, the whole commune has 184 poor households supported with a total budget of 6 billion VND; 39 poor households supported with a budget of 1.7 billion VND from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. Accordingly, households are supported with machinery, agricultural tools; support for seedlings and fertilizers for afforestation; support for cows and goats for reproduction. Currently, the people's livestock and crop models are developing well.
Thanks to the attention and support of the Party Committee and the government, along with the proactiveness and positivity of the people, currently, 80% of households in the commune develop the forest economy with an area of nearly 16,000 hectares. In addition, people also grow tea trees (216 hectares); medicinal plants under the forest canopy such as yellow camellia, cat ginseng (16.5 hectares); raising livestock and poultry... Thanks to effectively exploiting the commune's strengths in economic development, it has contributed significantly to reducing the commune's poverty rate over the years. According to the results of the poverty household review in 2025, the whole commune has 40 poor households, accounting for 1.9%, down 11.25% compared to 2020.
With the continuous efforts of the Party Committee, the government and the consensus of the people, Thai Binh commune has been affirming its steady steps on the path of development. From a commune with many difficulties, Thai Binh today has risen strongly, people's lives are increasingly improved, the economy is stable, and the rural appearance is improving. That result is an important foundation for the commune to continue towards the goal of comprehensive and sustainable development in the coming time.
