Binh Trieu 1 Bridge (HCMC) has completed the part of raising the clearance to 1.08m - Photo: CHAU TUAN
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center (HCMC Department of Construction) said that the clearance raising of Binh Trieu 1 Bridge has been completed as scheduled. From now until the end of November, the construction team will continue to fix the parts and complete the remaining items so that the bridge can operate stably.
After a month of hydraulic jacking, the 11,000-ton bridge was "pushed" up more than 1 meter. This elevation helps ships to pass through the Saigon River more easily, reduces the risk of jams during high tides, and ensures safety for both roads and waterways.
To complete the project, hundreds of engineers and workers took turns working continuously, monitoring each hydraulic jack that moved the bridge up little by little.
From October 1, the engineering team will begin dismantling and moving equipment to Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge, where the clearance project will continue. Most importantly, the hydraulic control system, considered the "heart" of the project, will also be moved today to serve the new project.
It is expected that Binh Phuoc 1 bridge will be raised about 1.25m (125cm), applying the same technology and process as Binh Trieu 1 bridge.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, raising bridges such as Binh Trieu 1 and soon Binh Phuoc 1 to meet high navigation standards will help waterway transport take advantage and reduce pressure on roads.
Binh Trieu 1 bridge lift error less than 1mm
Mr. Tran Bao Tho - project commander - said that each steel pillar is arranged with 5-10 hydraulic jacks depending on the position, connected to the central computer system on the bridge surface via hydraulic lines. This system will transmit and pump oil into the jacks to simultaneously lift the bridge.
Controlling the difference of less than 1mm between lifting points is almost the first time in Vietnam for such a massive bridge. After each lifting, the engineer checks, if it is not achieved, the jack will be lowered for adjustment before continuing.
