Having acquired a natural stage presence through observation and improvisation in each role, using humor to touch upon the depth of the characters, actor BB Tran is highly regarded by industry professionals.
Step out of your comfort zone.
According to director Hong Ngoc, actor BB Tran is a familiar face in mainstream entertainment. He entered the world of theater with a difficult choice: to seek depth instead of staying safe in familiar bright spots. BB Tran's role in the play "Miss Island" - a work honored at the 2025 Mai Vang Awards - is the kind of role that impresses with its superficial aspects but hides within it envy, jealousy, and behind-the-scenes stories of the fashion world, celebrating beauty but full of bitterness.
BB Tran's character, BB Chen, exists in a highly competitive world where beauty, fame, and ambition intertwine, pushing people into harsh choices. A notable highlight is BB Tran's approach to the character. Instead of relying on comedic elements, which are his forte, he chooses a restrained acting style, focusing on the character's inner turmoil. The moments of silence, the hesitant gaze, and the dialogue are delivered with depth, allowing the character to be fully revealed through the dramatic situations.

In the climactic scenes, the characters don't explode in the usual dramatic way, but rather simmer. This buildup creates a sense of closeness to real life, prompting the audience not only to watch but also to reflect. This is a conscious choice, demonstrating an effort to break free from "comedic inertia."
Bringing this play to the Ben Thanh Theater, BB Tran invested in the most extravagant costumes. Every time he appeared, the audience cheered and applauded. However, his laughter did not diminish the depth of his character.
No compromise with leniency.
Starting out outside the mainstream theater scene, BB Tran faced much skepticism. The question wasn't just about his potential for fame, but also his ability to withstand the pressure of the profession and his perseverance on stage. In his early roles at the Youth Theater, BB Tran performed alongside experienced artists, where any mistakes were easily noticeable. That environment forced him to change: read scripts more carefully, rehearse for longer periods, and most importantly, accept starting over from scratch.
Huynh Anh Tuan, Director of IDECAF Theatre - the managing unit of the Youth Theatre, once shared: "It's not easy for actors to transition from the entertainment industry to the stage and stay there, and BB Tran is a prime example. BB Tran not only embodies youthful energy in each of his roles but also knows how to explore the psychology of his characters to make them shine."

Those involved see the play "Miss Island" as a milestone, but not yet the destination. BB Tran's role as BB Chen shows he has crossed an important threshold: from making the audience laugh to making them think after the laughter. If he continues to maintain professional discipline and doesn't compromise with complacency, BB Tran could go further with more complex psychological roles.
Director Hong Ngoc expressed: "When an artist is persistent enough, laughter can absolutely become a stepping stone to delve into more challenging emotional realms. BB Tran is a prime example of an actor who enjoys facing pressure to take his profession seriously."
Theatre researcher, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Yen Chi commented: "BB Tran is very subtle in his acting. He knows when to remain silent, avoids excessive indulgence, knows how to moderate himself appropriately, and preserves the value of his dialogue." Director and Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong expressed his expectations: "BB Tran's acting is not yet completely polished, but the direction is right. If he continues to explore this acting style in many new plays, BB Tran can absolutely create roles with significant impact."
