Conditions for granting a license to practice clinical psychology

Mr. Thanh asked, after completing the practical training, will he be eligible to apply for a clinical psychology license, or will he have to study for a basic clinical psychology certificate to be eligible?

Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Health responded as follows:

Currently, the certificates used to grant the scope of clinical psychology practice are prescribed in Clause 8, Article 8 of Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP dated December 30, 2023 of the Government , specifically as follows:

"a) Clinical psychology title with scope of clinical psychology practice:

- Medical degree as prescribed in Clause 1 of this Article and a certificate of basic specialized training in clinical psychology as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 128 of this Decree;

- Bachelor's degree in psychology, including a graduation degree granted by a foreign educational institution recognized by the Minister of Education and Training as a bachelor's degree in psychology and having a certificate of basic specialized training in clinical psychology as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 128 of this Decree.

b) Clinical psychology title with scope of practice of specialized clinical psychology:

- Master's degree in clinical psychology, including a graduation degree granted by a foreign educational institution recognized by the Minister of Education and Training as a master's degree;

- Doctoral degree in clinical psychology, including a diploma granted by a foreign educational institution recognized by the Minister of Education and Training as a doctoral degree;

- Specialized diploma in clinical psychology as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 12 of this Decree".

Thus, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh meets the qualifications to be granted a scope of practice in clinical psychology.
