Conditions for granting a clinical psychology practice license.

(Chinhphu.vn) - Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh (Binh Duong) holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in psychology and has 9 months of clinical psychology practice at a psychiatric hospital.

Mr. Thanh asked whether, after completing his practical training, he would be eligible to apply for a clinical psychology license, or if he needed to obtain a basic clinical psychology specialist certificate to be eligible.

Regarding this matter, the Ministry of Health responded as follows:

Currently, the diplomas and certificates used to grant the scope of clinical psychology practice are regulated in Clause 8, Article 8 of Government Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP dated December 30, 2023, specifically as follows:

"a) Clinical psychology job titles and scope of clinical psychology practice:

- A medical degree as stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article and a certificate of basic specialist training in clinical psychology as stipulated in Clause 2 of Article 128 of this Decree;

- A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, including a degree awarded by a foreign educational institution that is recognized by the Minister of Education and Training as a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a certificate of basic specialist training in clinical psychology as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 128 of this Decree.

b) Clinical psychology job titles with specialized clinical psychology practice scope:

- Master's degree in clinical psychology, including degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions that are recognized as master's level by the Minister of Education and Training;

- Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology, including degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions that are recognized as doctoral degrees by the Minister of Education and Training;

- A specialist degree in clinical psychology as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 12 of this Decree."

Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh meets the qualification requirements regarding his qualifications to be granted a license to practice clinical psychology.
