Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited has just informed that it will regulate water through the spillway of Song Khan reservoir (Ham Thuan Bac). The expected regulation time is at 4:00 p.m. on August 20, starting to gradually increase the discharge to a flow rate of 2 m3/s; after 8:00 p.m. on the same day, depending on the flow to the reservoir and the downstream situation, the flow rate will increase from 3 to 20 m3/s.
To avoid damage to people in affected areas, the Company requests the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Bac district to notify localities and people along the flood discharge route of Song Khan lake to proactively take safety prevention plans.
It is known that on the night of August 19, there was heavy rain in the upstream area of Song Khan Lake. As of 7:00 a.m. on August 20, the water level of Song Khan Lake was at +106.36m, approximately equal to the normal water level of +106.9m and continuing to rise. Therefore, proactive water regulation is needed to ensure the safety of the reservoir project.
Also this morning (August 20), the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has forecast heavy rain in the Central Highlands and the South. Accordingly, last night and early this morning, August 20, in the Northern, Central Highlands and Southern regions, there will be showers and thunderstorms, especially in the mountainous and midland areas of the North and the Southeast, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain. It is forecasted that from August 20 to 21, the Central Highlands and the South will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-100mm, some places over 150mm (rain concentrated in the afternoon and evening). In the afternoon and night of August 20, in the Northern region, there will be rain, moderate rain, locally heavy rain to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 15-30mm, some places over 60mm. Warning that the Central Highlands and the South are likely to have prolonged rain in the coming days.
Due to the impact of heavy rain, it is necessary to guard against the risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas. Beware of heavy rain in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
