Average height of Vietnamese children: Improved but still not up to standard.
At a recent Nutrition Conference organized by the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine, experts stated that nearly 50% of Vietnamese children still do not meet the height standards for their age. Currently, the average height of young Vietnamese men is 168.1cm, and that of young women is 156.2cm – equivalent to an increase of 3.7cm and 1.4cm respectively compared to figures from a decade ago.

However, these figures are still significantly lower than the global average height of 176.1 cm for males and 163.1 cm for females. To improve this situation, doctors recommend that children receive adequate amounts of essential minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, vitamins A, D, and K2 to support effective height development.

Height is not just an indicator of physical appearance, but also reflects the stature, health, and future of a generation. Behind every centimeter of a child's growth is not simply genetic inheritance, but a whole journey of proper nurturing during their early years.
In fact, science has shown that a child's height is determined by four factors: genetics (23%), nutrition (32%), living environment (25%), and exercise (20%). Therefore, aside from the unchangeable genetic factor, mothers have up to a 77% chance of helping their children grow taller.
Proper and sufficient nutrition is crucial in determining a child's height.
Scientists have shown that the combination of Calcium, Vitamin D3, and Potassium K2 supports height growth, while the group of nutrients including Zinc, Magnesium, and Phosphorus supports bone structure development and calcium absorption.
Accordingly, calcium extracted from milk is considered an easily absorbed form of calcium, friendly to the digestive system and suitable for the physical condition of young children. Vitamin D3 plays a role in guiding calcium from the intestines into the bloodstream; if there is a deficiency of D3, most of the calcium ingested will be excreted and will not be effective. Vitamin K2 acts as a "guide" to deliver calcium to the correct location, helping to strengthen bones. In addition, minerals such as magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus help complete bone structure, increasing density and flexibility.

Another essential element is the supplementation of 2'-FL HMO, FOS, and Inulin to build a strong immune system and good digestion for children. Only with a healthy gut can a child's body absorb valuable nutrients from meals and milk.
Scientific solutions to help children increase their height effectively.
"Previously, I thought that simply feeding my child lots of shrimp and crab was enough calcium. But now I understand that calcium in seafood is difficult to absorb, and even consuming a lot of calcium without D3, K2, and other essential nutrients won't support bone development," shared Ms. Thu Minh ( Hanoi ).
Thu Minh's story is not unique; many mothers are now understanding that proper calcium supplementation is more important than providing a lot of calcium that is poorly absorbed by their children. That's why experts encourage parents to choose products with easily absorbed calcium extracted from milk, combined with Vitamins D3 and K2 and minerals to support effective bone development.
The period after age 2 is crucial for height development and building a strong bone foundation. With proper nutrition, children can grow an additional 5-8cm per year before puberty, averaging about 6.2cm/year, while bone density also increases by approximately 1% per year. Therefore, while mothers cannot change genes, they can proactively improve their child's height through scientifically sound nutrition.
