Foreign tourists experience ice at Fansipan peak.

Accordingly, the ice formed around 3-4am this morning but quickly melted when the sun rose around 6am.

This phenomenon attracts many tourists, who come early to observe the low temperature and take photos to capture the rare moment on the highest mountain in Vietnam.

In the center of Sa Pa town, the lowest temperature this morning fluctuates between 3-7 degrees Celsius, the weather is cold and dry. The weather on the top of Fansipan is forecast to be clear all day, suitable for tourists to visit, while the cold air still remains in this area.

Notably, today is also the last day the Sun World Fansipan cable car will be available for visitors before the scheduled maintenance from November 24 to December 15. Many visitors took the opportunity to go to the top of the mountain to observe the phenomenon of thin ice and measure the low temperature in the early morning.

Frost covered the top of Fansipan on the morning of November 23.

"This morning, I went up to the top of Fansipan and saw light ice covering the flagpole and tower. This is a normal phenomenon, but it still surprises people because the frost and ice appeared quite early compared to other years," said Nguyen Thi Hanh, a tourist visiting Fansipan peak.

Previously, on November 21, the area around the Fansipan peak had the first frost of the season, when water vapor condenses into thin ice on leaves, stone steps and wooden floors. The North has just experienced the strongest cold spell since the beginning of winter, with the lowest temperature dropping to 11-14 degrees Celsius, and in some high mountainous areas below 5 degrees Celsius.

According to Ms. Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological expert, this year's cold air appeared early and the recent very strong cold air wave is rare in November.

This is the second time in three days that ice has appeared on Fansipan peak.

In December, frost may appear more frequently, not only on mountain peaks above 3,000m but also in places like Sin Ho, Mu Cang Chai, Mau Son..., even the Ba Vi mountain area in Hanoi - where snowfall has been recorded.

"La Nina is active and may last throughout the winter. There will certainly be some cold air waves causing snow or ice, frost over a fairly large area, mainly in mountainous areas. The places where it appears may be more numerous than in previous years," Ms. Lan shared.
