After nearly 5 years of investing in an agarwood garden in Dong Tien commune, Dong Phu district, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City has achieved unexpected results. All of her family's Aquilaria trees have begun to produce agarwood after being cultivated. Ms. Dinh said: I have spent many years researching agarwood and know that creating agarwood is a difficult process, full of luck and risk. Therefore, when investing in an agarwood garden in Dong Tien commune, I did not have high expectations. However, today's exploitation was a surprise, even though it had only been cultivated for 4 years, all the Aquilaria trees have produced agarwood.

"When sawing, I saw that the agarwood block ate a lot, not only the base but also spread to the top. The amount of agarwood collected may not be much, but I feel very happy" - Ms. Dinh shared.
As the owner of an agarwood garden with over 20-year-old Aquilaria trees, Mr. Le Van Giang, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of TTT Agarwood Joint Stock Company, said: Currently, the company has 17 agarwood gardens in Binh Phuoc, with over 55,000 Aquilaria trees. However, through inspection and evaluation, only 22,000 trees produce agarwood. Explaining this, Mr. Giang said that creating agarwood is a difficult process, depending on the seedlings, climate, soil, as well as the cultivation technology to ensure the correct technical standards, as well as the number and location of wounds on each tree must be calculated appropriately.

According to Mr. Giang, the technology or method of creating agarwood is the most important factor determining the quality of the finished product. TTT Agarwood Joint Stock Company is applying the technology of inoculating microorganisms to create agarwood. Completely different from chemical technology, the technology of inoculating microorganisms will help the tree grow normally and form agarwood in the same way as in nature. The tree has enough time to accumulate oil in the wound and form agarwood with superior thickness, scent and quality.
With many years of experience in playing with agarwood, Mr. Lam Hong Minh Dung from Ho Chi Minh City shared: Agarwood is formed from the wound of the Aquilaria tree. The journey to create agarwood is quite special. Depending on the "condition" of each tree, not every Aquilaria tree can produce agarwood. During the development process, rain, storms or natural agents injure the tree trunk, the tree is infected with a type of mold and secretes aromatic resin to resist this attack. The secreted resin will become more concentrated over time and eat into the surrounding wood fibers.
Mr. Lam Hong Minh Dung, a long-time agarwood player from Ho Chi Minh City, is checking the amount of oil at the agarwood garden of TTT Agarwood Joint Stock Company in Binh Phuoc.
According to Mr. Dung, agarwood is widely used in life today. Products made from agarwood are extremely diverse, from agarwood bracelets, agarwood incense to agarwood essential oil, tea... Agarwood essential oil alone is a measure of its value because the older the agarwood is, the higher the percentage of essential oil, the more valuable it is. Agarwood essential oil gives off a special aroma that has the effect of relaxing the mind and reducing stress and fatigue. Therefore, agarwood is one of the most promising crops, especially in Binh Phuoc.
Experts also believe that agarwood trees have great potential to bring high economic profits thanks to the potential market, while natural agarwood is increasingly scarce. However, agarwood cultivation does not always produce the expected results. Therefore, growers need to pay attention to the requirements of planting, care, and cultivation techniques to move towards organic agarwood production to meet the strict requirements of domestic and foreign markets.
