Together with farmers to produce organic rice

Recently, when working on the organic rice model in Hieu Giang commune, the Head of the Economic Department of Mai Chiem Hiep commune said: “Organic rice production requires strict adherence to technical processes, so at first many people were confused. But gradually, people also got used to this new farming method. The locality has coordinated with Quang Tri Trading Corporation to deploy the model, with an area of 70 hectares, expected to expand to 120 hectares in the near future. In general, the situation of organic rice production in recent years has been stable and developing. People are assured and confident in the production process as well as the company's product consumption policy.”

Everyone knows that, in addition to being a food commodity consumed domestically, organic rice also has high export value. However, changing the long-standing farming practices of farmers is not simple. With the determination to accompany farmers, engineer Ho Xuan Hieu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Quang Tri Trading Corporation, shared: "In order for people to change their farming practices and switch to organic rice production, also known as clean rice, we initially worked with the local government to mobilize people, pointed out the practical benefits of production and committed to preserving rice after harvest, including product consumption. When people trust, they are willing to follow."

In Hai Lang rice granary in the south of the province, the organic rice model has also been deployed and has been successful continuously for many years, creating a new production direction in agriculture : Safe, civilized, environmentally friendly and contributing to protecting the health of consumers and producers. Mr. Nguyen Quan, in Kim Long village, Vinh Dinh commune said: "The organic rice production process is very different from the traditional way. We do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides, but only use organic materials such as fermented stems, ginger, garlic... from planting to harvesting, to create "clean" rice. Although there are times when the weather is not favorable, thanks to the high selling price, each hectare of organic rice brings in about 7 million VND more income than traditional rice. Recently, the company has purchased fresh rice in the field at 13,000 VND/kg, helping farmers promptly solve the output.

Go up the mountain to plant cassava

If in the plains, the company is associated with farmers through the organic rice model, then in the mountainous areas it is the cassava growing model. Engineer Ho Xuan Hieu, when he just graduated from school, volunteered to go to the Huong Hoa (old) mountain area to build a cassava factory. The company's leaders realized that if they wanted farmers to feel secure in production, they had to ensure output, linking production with consumption and processing. Previously, cassava in the southern mountainous area of Quang Tri was mainly a food crop supplied locally, easily damaged and lost due to rainy weather. To completely solve this difficulty, building a cassava factory was absolutely necessary.

Thanks to the effective closed model: Production-purchase-processing-export, cassava and banana trees have helped people, most of whom are ethnic minorities, to have the opportunity to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and become rich. Mr. Ho Kham, a Van Kieu person in A Doi commune, excitedly said: "People have become better off thanks to growing cassava, any family that grows a lot and takes good care of it can get rich from cassava". In fact, the model of a hundred million dong cassava club has appeared in the Lia area, with most of its members being Van Kieu people.

Party Secretary and Chairman of Lia Commune People's Council Tran Dinh Dung added: "Currently, cassava and banana trees are still the main crops of Lia area. Cassava in recent years has contributed significantly to changing people's lives. Although the product still depends on the weather and output prices, cassava still holds an important position in household economic development. To achieve this result, in addition to the efforts of the people and the direction of the locality, it is impossible not to mention the "midwife" role of Quang Tri Trading Corporation."

Mr. Ha Sy Dong, former Acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province commented: "It can be affirmed that Quang Tri Trading Corporation is one of the few most effective production and business enterprises in the locality. In particular, the company has played a significant role in inspiring farmers to change their production practices, join hands with the local Party Committee and government in economic development, improve farmers' lives, and contribute to the construction of the three rural areas: Agriculture, farmers and rural areas of Quang Tri".

It is known that the State is considering the application to award the noble title of Hero of Labor to Quang Tri Trading Corporation, an enterprise that has always been close to and accompanied Quang Tri farmers.
