The exhibition, organized by the Hanoi Graphic Association 2 under the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, marks the beginning of a series of annual activities honoring the people behind the "cloak" of knowledge and emotion: cover designers.
At the exhibition space, the public has the opportunity to admire hundreds of typical works in the field of contemporary publishing design, demonstrating the intersection between artistic thinking and modern technology.
In his opening speech, artist Le Tien Vuong, Head of the Hanoi Graphic Association 2, emphasized: Each design, each product is the voice of knowledge and national culture. Many artists have created in silence with the eyes of an artist, the hands of a technician, the head of an entrepreneur and a heart full of emotions.
The highlight of this year's exhibition is the honoring of talented young faces, including young artists like Mac Phuong from the Writers' Association Publishing House. With a series of highly appreciated designs, such as: The epic poem "Slaughterhouse" by Nguyen Quang Thieu, "White Album" - the posthumous work of poet Le Dat, "Surviving Moments" by Le Kien Thanh... Mac Phuong was awarded the "red bow" symbol by the Organizing Committee in recognition of his efforts in innovation, creativity and personal identity in cover design.
Artist Do Ngoc Dung, one of the members of the Professional Council, commented: Mac Phuong's recent designs are very "up to date", with depth of thought and emotion, something that not every young artist can achieve.
The exhibition opens up a vibrant art display space, and is also an opportunity to connect and share between generations of artists, from veteran names to students and young people who are entering the field of graphic design and publishing. This is an opportunity to look back on the creative journey, spread inspiration and find new factors for the book and newspaper market that is increasingly demanding in terms of visuality.
In particular, at 9:00 a.m. on June 22, the exhibition space will host a discussion with the theme "Cover Design - From Inspiration to Practice", promising to bring many opportunities to share behind-the-scenes stories, valuable experiences and future design trends between artists and readers who love the art of publishing.
According to experts, perhaps never before has book, newspaper and magazine cover design become such a carefully and seriously invested field as it is today.
As printing technology, visual arts and creative thinking have developed rapidly, book, newspaper and magazine covers, which were once simply protective "shells", have now become attractive "spiritual posters", conveying the content, emotions and aesthetic values of the entire work.
The artists emphasized: Nowadays, the cover is the element that shapes the first impression, leads the senses and evokes emotions in the reader. In the past, the cover design was simple due to the rudimentary printing technology, the artist had to "calculate" very carefully to achieve the highest efficiency with the minimum of details. Today, the book cover has become " fashion at all levels", both an aesthetic product and a short, powerful communication channel between the work and the reader.
For many publishers, covers are now an indispensable visual strategy. A good design can determine sales, brand positioning, media coverage... even increasing the ability to compete with translated or international books.
The cover design market is currently witnessing a strong transformation. Besides the artists who "draw for fun" and "collaborate for fun", a force of professional cover designers has been and is being clearly defined, with high professional qualifications and updated aesthetic thinking.

From famous names to the young generation of artists, everyone is creating a new look for Vietnamese publishing, when each book cover is truly seen as an independent work of art.
Entering the transitional period, cover design is moving in prominent directions. First is personalization and handcrafting. At that time, the work has a deep personal mark, expressing the unique aesthetic taste of each artist, not following the beaten path.
Next is "Culturalization of Design" with the concept that the cover is not simply an illustration, but a cultural discourse, integrating symbols, artistic language and public psychology.
And finally, digitalization and high technology are demonstrated through the application of 3D design tools, simulation materials, creative typography and contemporary visual effects to create new appeal.

With its increasingly important position in publishing life, book, newspaper and magazine cover design needs to be recognized as an independent art field; there needs to be a playground, awards, seminars and a systematic training network.
Therefore, activities such as annual exhibitions, career seminars or practical design classes are indispensable if Vietnam wants to have a publishing industry that is not only strong in content, but also rich in visual identity, and competitive enough in the international arena.
