Labor exchange - A beautiful aspect of harvest season

These days, in the fields of the northern mountainous region of the province, farmers are busily transplanting rice and sowing corn, their laughter echoing like a celebratory melody of the harvest season. In this rhythm, the solidarity of the villages is clearly evident, as everyone works together, sharing the burden and creating a harvest day filled with hope.

As soon as they learned that Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet and Ms. Hoang Thi Trung, from Ban Dieu village (Cho Don commune), were ill and unable to complete the spring rice planting, the women's association members went to the fields to help the two families.

Accordingly, nearly 50 women helped plant rice on over 3,000 square meters of land on time, demonstrating the bond and sharing spirit within the Women's Union with its members and other women.

Ms. Nguyen Thien Hoa, Head of the Women's Association in Ban Dieu village, shared: "We consider each other like sisters in a family; we support each other whenever someone faces difficulties. Everyone feels happy and fulfilled when they can contribute to helping Ms. Quyet and Ms. Trung."

In Cho Don commune, 39 women's associations are actively organizing joint rice planting sessions, sharing labor to help families complete their crops on time. This activity not only facilitates farming but also spreads a spirit of solidarity and mutual support within the community, enhancing the image of rural women in their work and lives.

Speaking to us about the mutual support movement during the harvest season, Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy, President of the Women's Union of Cho Don commune, said: "The movement of women helping each other during the harvest season, in economic development, and in life has become a tradition of the Women's Union of the commune. During the harvest season, every day in the fields, the women support each other and foster a spirit of solidarity within the community."

These days, in the communes and wards of the northern part of the province, women's association members are actively planting rice and corn for the spring crop. In the atmosphere of urgent labor, the spirit of mutual support among the women is clearly evident. Not only do they assist members facing difficulties, illness, or when their families are short of manpower, but the women's associations also organize reciprocal labor exchanges to help each other complete rice planting within the appropriate timeframe.

The practice of exchanging labor during the harvest season spread throughout the fields.
The practice of exchanging labor during the harvest season spread throughout the fields.

Arriving at Ban Dieu village (Na Ri commune), we gained a clearer sense of the bustling atmosphere of the harvest season, characterized by a system of reciprocal labor exchange. Nearly 15 people were enthusiastically planting corn. Each person had a different task: some drove the tractor to loosen the soil, others prepared the ridges, and still others sowed the seeds…

In Ban Dieu village during harvest season, farm work is done through a labor exchange system, with each household contributing their labor each day, thus providing support to many families.

Mr. Luong Van Giai from Ban Dieu village, Na Ri commune, shared: "Working together is very enjoyable, and everyone is enthusiastic about laboring. Each time we exchange labor, we sow about 6,000 square meters of rice fields, and in the evening we discuss our experiences to improve for the following days."

Harvest season is not only a time for hard work in the fields, but also an opportunity for community bonding, where cultural values and neighborly feelings are strengthened. Exchanging labor during harvest season is a distinctive cultural tradition of the highland people, demonstrating solidarity and sharing in labor. This tradition not only helps improve production efficiency but also contributes to preserving strong neighborly bonds across generations.
