Ferrari once again disappointed fans this season. |
Charles Leclerc won qualifying and on race day, he quickly took the lead from the start. However, the Ferrari driver's two pit stops for tires saw him overtaken by his McLaren rivals.
Immediately after losing the first position, “Prince of Monaco” (nicknamed Charles Leclerc) and George Russell competed for the podium (the first 3 drivers to finish). Notably, despite having only 3 laps more tires than his Mercedes rival, Leclerc still fell behind and lost the 3rd position.
Another Ferrari driver, Lewis Hamilton, the 7-time world champion, did not perform well in qualifying and had to start in 12th place. After 70 laps, the British driver still could not make it into the top 10 to bring points home for the “House of Horses”.
Before that, after completing the qualifying race, Hamilton shared: “I feel like a useless person. The other car of the team still came first. Maybe the team needs to change to another driver.” It is not difficult for fans to see the “living legend” of F1 village’s insecurity in the new racing team.
Many Ferrari fans believe that this poor result is largely due to a lack of communication between the team and the driver. At the same time, the team's SF-25 has been having problems. Even in Hungary, Leclerc's car, according to the driver himself, broke the frame on lap 40.
Lewis Hamilton could not save the Ferrari racing team either. |
Meanwhile, the two McLaren drivers have maintained their devastating form after 14 races in the 2025 season. Lando Norris took advantage of two pit stops by Leclerc to take the lead after 50 laps. Despite having to compete directly with teammate Oscar Piastri later, he was still the first to cross the finish line.
With the victory in Hungary, Norris closed the gap to Piastri in the 2025 drivers' standings to nine points. McLaren's gap to Ferrari, who are second, in the constructors' standings has more than doubled. The defending champions have 516 points, while Ferrari has 248.
Mercedes, who finished third, also showed more positive signs in Hungary. George Russell, after his second tire change, continued to have the fastest laps and finished third. Kimi Antonelli, the 18-year-old driver of the “Silver Arrows”, finished 10th and scored his first points in European races this season.
After the Hungarian GP, the teams will have a two-week break before preparing for the race in the Netherlands at the end of August.
