That day we talked to each other, our hearts still choked with grief over the lives buried under the rubble after Mother Nature's shock.
To see that impermanence is always present, it alone determines everything. Humans, with just one exhalation, disappear into nothingness. What can we still keep for ourselves?
You said you are going back to your hometown this time to rearrange your work. You are not outside the unemployment “storm” that is spreading everywhere. You are not sad. What can be solved by being sad? How can the gentle mother in the countryside understand what kind of “child” AI is that is causing her child and millions of people to lose their jobs?
You come back, there is someone standing by to fan the coals, there is someone else turning the pieces of meat that are dripping with fat over the fragrant red fire, your mother's back pain is a little less. You don't know if your mother made more money today, but you know for sure that she smiled more. Strangely, you haven't remembered your mother's smile for a long time, but now that you look back, it seems to have become less sunken.
Mom spoke softly, but you got goosebumps. Suddenly you thought that one day, life would “rip” Mom away from you, just like you had “ripped” yourself away from this peaceful countryside. You didn’t tell Mom that you were unemployed. These days, the news of merging provinces and cities, and rearranging wards and communes also made a woman who loved her hometown like Mom restless. You couldn’t bear to add another worry to Mom’s mind.
You just asked your mother to let you come back to help sell rice at the stall. Your mother did not believe that a fun-loving, city-loving kid would have a "countryside craving" syndrome. But she still smiled.
Looking at your mother still working quickly at the food counter, her hands and feet not making a single unnecessary movement, you suddenly feel happy because at least the whirlwind of technology still has "no chance" of affecting her livelihood.
It's true that no matter how developed AI is, it still can't marinate fragrant ribs; it can't turn a piece of fatty meat over a charcoal stove so that it doesn't get too dry or burnt; it can't make smooth egg rolls like mom, it can't generously add another piece of meat or egg to the old man selling lottery tickets's already-full plate of rice...
You smile for no reason. Someone said it right, just live, and you will live! You will live like your mother, happily, think less, worry less, and you will be less tired. You will think of ways to make a living without depending too much on anything. Everything just needs to be enough.
Life is full of worries about food, clothing, and money, holding back the feet that cannot find each other, holding back the joys, sinking them into the valley of the burden of a hard life. There are eyes that have not yet touched the high mountains, the vast sea. There are ears that have not yet heard the strange sounds of the sparse streams, the deserted forests. And then when looking back, the body has already fallen limp on the other side of the slope of life.
No matter what tomorrow brings, we must live fully today.
"This human life is very hasty
Honey, just live so that you feel happy.
Live like you never lived before
Hold my hand and walk through the long night…”.
I hear you say it, as if you were talking to yourself!
