Innovating the emulation movement to promote double-digit growth.

VHO - Within the framework of the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, discussions at Center No. 5 focused on innovating patriotic emulation movements. The discussion, chaired by the Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Thai Thu Xuong, outlined a shift from traditional emulation to movements linked to the application of science and technology and digital transformation.

The central objective of the new term is the "Skilled, Creative, High-Productivity, Good Income" movement, aimed at building a modern workforce and promoting sustainable national economic growth.

Speaking at Discussion Center No. 5, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Thai Thu Xuong, stated that the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union is taking place in a particularly important context, as the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire political system are determined to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Party; realize the goal of rapid and sustainable national development, strive to achieve double-digit economic growth, promote the development of science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation…

To realize these grand goals, the role of the working class and trade unions is becoming more important than ever.

Emulation movements among workers and employees need to be strongly reformed, both in content and organizational methods, and must truly become a driving force to promote and improve labor productivity, human resource quality, production efficiency, work performance, and the competitiveness of each agency, unit, enterprise, and the economy as a whole.

According to Ms. Thai Thu Xuong, in the new phase, emulation should not only focus on encouraging enthusiastic work, but also strongly emphasize the application of science and technology, digital transformation, innovation, and improvement of production processes, management, and working methods. At the same time, it should directly contribute to ensuring sustainable employment, increasing income, and improving working conditions and the lives of workers.

According to Ms. Thai Thu Xuong, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has identified the emulation movement for excellent, high-productivity, and high-income workers in the period 2026-2031 as a crucial and continuous task for the trade union organization in the new term. The movement aims to strongly inspire the spirit of creative labor and the aspiration for advancement among union members and workers, creating breakthroughs in productivity, job quality, income, and welfare, contributing to national development.

Speaking at Discussion Center No. 5, Mr. Cao Minh Hoa, Chairman of the Trade Union and Technical Director of TH Milk Joint Stock Company, stated that during the past term, trade unions at all levels in Nghe An province organized more than 86 skills competitions. Throughout the province, 12,470 initiatives and solutions were recognized, bringing in benefits worth over 612 billion VND.

Based on that experience, Mr. Cao Minh Hoa believes that in the next term, it is necessary to focus on implementing many solutions simultaneously. First and foremost is to continue innovating propaganda work, creating a strong shift in awareness among union members, workers, and employers regarding the role and importance of vocational training and improving professional skills; and building a culture of lifelong learning among workers.

At the same time, trade unions need to proactively coordinate with businesses to understand labor needs and skill requirements, thereby organizing training and development programs that are relevant to practice; focusing on retraining and upgrading vocational and digital skills for workers to meet the requirements of digital transformation and production transformation.

Meanwhile, Mr. Le An Hai, Chairman of the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Sector, argued that double-digit growth means the economy must maintain a growth rate of over 10% each year. If Vietnam's GDP reached approximately $500 billion last year, it needs to increase by another $50-60 billion in the following years to reach $550-600 billion.

To achieve that goal, all sectors within the Ministry of Industry and Trade must experience high growth rates. By 2025, Vietnam's total import and export turnover is expected to exceed US$900 billion. Trade activities in the coming period need to maintain a growth rate of approximately 15-20% per year.

Therefore, labor productivity is the key factor determining the competitiveness and development potential of the productive forces. Trade unions continue to work alongside businesses in resolving difficulties related to mechanisms and policies; coordinating with state management agencies, ministries, and sectors to propose favorable policies and create a better development environment for businesses.

"Working alongside businesses and workers not only contributes to increased labor productivity, but is also a crucial solution for achieving double-digit economic growth in the coming period," Mr. Le An Hai emphasized.

In addition, Mr. Le An Hai suggested that representatives of the grassroots trade union of the Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation (VEAM) continue to share more initiatives and practical experiences to further clarify the role of the trade union in accompanying the enterprise to improve labor productivity and take care of the lives of workers.
