The village of Ro is mainly inhabited by the Nung ethnic group, who make their living by fishing on Thac Ba Lake.
Ms. Lieng Thi Yeu, the village head of Ro, pointed to the lake and said: "In the past, the population was sparse, and we made a living by fishing for fish and shrimp. Because the roads were so difficult to travel on, trade was also not convenient, and the villagers only had fishing as their livelihood, so life remained difficult."

Then, along with other localities, many programs and projects to help people eradicate hunger and reduce poverty were implemented in Ro village, such as: the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction; building new rural areas…
The former Phan Thanh commune has implemented many activities to support people in developing production, livestock farming, crop cultivation, and rural road construction. The lives of the people in Ro village have gradually turned a new page thanks to participation in many training courses on farming and livestock raising, and access to loans to develop their family economies . They have learned to utilize the surface water of Thac Ba Lake to raise fish in cages, bringing high economic value.

Leading the way is Mr. Hoang Van Gia, Secretary of the Party Branch of Ro village. Mr. Gia shared: "If we only relied on catching natural fish, the fish stocks would be depleted. Therefore, my family boldly borrowed capital to build 10 fish cages, raising grass carp, silver carp, and silver carp. Having participated in many training courses and visited many effective fish farming models, I applied the knowledge to caring for the fish cages. With natural water sources and feed from agricultural by-products, the fish are fragrant and delicious, and when it's time to sell, traders come directly to the rafts to weigh them. With accumulated capital, I continued to build more cages to raise sturgeon, and each year my family harvests about 8 tons of fish, earning over 200 million VND.”
Having achieved success in fish farming, Mr. Gia shared his techniques with other households in the village, helping them develop their economy through cage fish farming. A prime example is the family of Mr. Nong Van Bang, also from Ro village. Using family savings and additional loans from the Social Policy Bank, Mr. Bang invested in 12 fish cages, raising black carp and whitefish, earning nearly 300 million VND annually.
Currently, Ro village has established a Fisheries Cooperative with 7 members, headed by Mr. Hoang Van Gia as Director, with 38 fish cages, each yielding a profit of over 25 million VND per year.

The village of Ro has over 150 households that make a living from fishing, but due to poor transportation infrastructure, the selling price is not high. Therefore, in recent years, the movement to donate land for road construction has been strongly implemented in Ro village. In 2025 alone, four sections of village roads were widened and paved with concrete.
Leading me along the village road, Ms. Trieu Thi Hop, a resident of Ro village, said: “Building this road was quite costly and arduous, but we were very determined. When the government provided cement, sand, and gravel, families voluntarily donated land and labor to build the road. In just over a month, the nearly 90-meter-long, 3-meter-wide concrete road was completed, making it convenient for households to travel.”

With the roads paved with clean concrete, the potential of Ro village was fully realized, allowing traders to come directly to people's homes to buy agricultural products. The lives of the people improved steadily, and spacious, well-built houses gradually appeared. Even in the most remote part of the village, three spacious and airy houses have been constructed.
The people of Ro village have now learned to apply science to livestock farming and cultivation, and many families have accumulated wealth and risen out of poverty.
Ms. Lieng Thi Yeu, Head of Ro village, added: “The village currently has 62 households and 244 people, but only 3 households remain poor, with an average income of over 40 million VND per person per year.”
Thanks to the attention of the Party, the State, the government at all levels, and the strong determination of the Nung people here, the lives of the people in Ro village have changed for the better. Roads now reach the village, spacious and airy houses are gradually appearing, and life is becoming more prosperous and happy.
