Vietnamese triathlon team raises target at SEA Games 33
At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the Vietnamese triathlon team (swimming, cycling, and running) won 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. The goal for the Vietnamese triathlon team at the 33rd SEA Games (Thailand) is to achieve a higher result than in their first competition.
Mr. Le Hong Minh - President of the Vietnam Triathlon Federation (VTRIF), Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of VNG - said that to encourage the athletes, VTRIF will award a bonus of 50 million VND for each gold medal, 30 million VND for each silver medal, and 15 million VND for each bronze medal.
VTRIF Vice President Nguyen Anh Tuan commented: “This year's team combines both experience and youth. We had to carefully plan the lineup because all the athletes on the team are Vietnamese, while other countries have naturalized athletes.”

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan also shared his long-term vision: “In the Philippines, triathlon is a key national sport, and athletes are willing to turn down other teams to compete in triathlon. If you want a quick solution, you can naturalize the athletes, but this is not a sustainable approach.”
From grassroots competitions like Iron Kid and Trifecta Kid to introducing triathlon into schools, Vietnam promises to build a generation of high-quality young athletes within the next 5-10 years. Like today's team, many were born after 2000, some are only 16 years old, and 12-13 year olds are training to become the next generation of athletes.”
As part of the event, VTRIF also unveiled the official match kit for the national team, produced and sponsored by the MOTIVE brand.

VTRIF is expected to give a strong boost to the triathlon movement.

VTRIF was officially established by a decision of the Ministry of Interior on January 10, 2024. The first term's Executive Board consists of Mr. Le Hong Minh (Chairman of VNG) as Chairman and Ms. Nguyen Thu Phuong (Vietnam Sports and Physical Education Department) as Secretary General.
Vietnam's goal is to join the World Triathlon Federation, opening up opportunities for international training and competition for athletes, and contributing to making this unique sport one of the leading sports in Vietnam.
In addition to its partnership with the Vietnam Triathlon Federation, VNG was also a pioneer in bringing the Iron Man 70.3, a globally renowned triathlon, to Vietnam and has been a strategic sponsor for many years.
