The MMA Lion Championship 16 event witnessed a series of early finishes and a new record was set.

On August 10th, at the Rach Mieu Gymnasium (Ho Chi Minh City), the highlight match of the MMA LION Championship 16 took place between two fighters, Phan Thanh Tung (Agoge) and Pham Ngoc Canh (Lien Phong Martial Arts School), in the men's 56 kg weight class.

Entering the match, Ngoc Canh quickly launched a series of kicks to maintain distance, but Thanh Tung showed no signs of wavering, swiftly closing the gap.

Early kicks gave Johnny Trí Nguyễn's student the advantage in the first minute. However, the representative of Liên Phong Martial Arts School then fell into a chokehold as Thanh Tùng quickly found the initiative.

Thanh Tung then switched to arm locks to knock out Ngoc Canh when 2 minutes and 2 seconds had passed in the first round of the match.

In the main draw, 2022 season runner-up Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa continued her winning streak when she faced her familiar opponent Ho Thi Ngoc Bich in the women's 52 kg weight class.

This 16th Lion Championship also saw the highest percentage of fighters finishing their fights early ever. Of the 10 fights that took place, 8 ended in the first round.

In five instances, fighters won by submission, four of which resulted in knockouts (technical knockouts).

Notably, fighter Huynh Ngoc Tin set a record for the fastest victory in the history of the LION Championship when he knocked out Phan Ngoc Tuyet Dung in just 13 seconds.

After a surprising early high kick stunned Tuyet Dung, Ngoc Tin immediately rushed in to finish him off with two punches, forcing the referee to stop the match.

Previously, the record for the fastest victory belonged to Pham Cong Minh, who took only 15 seconds to defeat Hoang Tran Minh Hieu at the 2019 tournament.
