By the end of May 29th, "Underworld Beauty Salon" will conclude its box office journey. To date, director Nguyen Huu Hoang's brainchild has only grossed approximately 12.6 billion VND , a figure that will undoubtedly result in a significant loss for the investors.
With a limited number of screenings and meager revenue over the past period, "Underworld Beauty Salon" only stayed in theaters for about 3 weeks, a rather short time. In its final days, the film earned almost nothing. On May 29th, the film only sold one ticket out of a total of 2 screenings.

From May 6th, when special screenings went on sale, "Underworld Beauty Salon" quickly faded from the box office. Revenue increased slowly from the very beginning, struggling to gain traction. This unfavorable start led to limited screenings, resulting in a continuous decline in box office performance.
The drama "Underworld Beauty Salon" revolves around the story of Thanh (Ngoc Trinh), a young and skilled doctor who faces a major crisis when her boyfriend is involved in an accident and falls into a coma.
To pay for her boyfriend's surgery, Thanh accepts a job at an isolated beauty salon run by Mrs. Xuan. This place caters only to special clients, situated in a secluded area and always shrouded in a gloomy atmosphere. Since arriving, Thanh has witnessed strange occurrences and gradually discovers horrifying secrets behind the salon's luxurious facade.

The film sparked debate regarding its script and acting. |
The film has a rather intriguing premise, exploring the obsession with beauty, youth, and the human sacrifices made in the pursuit of perfect appearance. However, this idea is not developed convincingly. The script lacks coherence, the characters' motivations are vague, many plot points are contrived and lack clear explanations. Therefore, as the story progresses, it loses its appeal and fails to create the necessary suspense for a horror film.
Acting was also a point of contention. Ngoc Trinh failed to create depth in her role as Thanh, while Xuan Lan, despite her appearance fitting the mysterious character, lacked the necessary depth in the psychological scenes. The film's horror elements relied primarily on loud noises and sudden jump scares, rather than building fear through situations and character psychology.
