According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), the trees were cut down in the area of Cong Hoa and Truong Chinh streets.
The trees that were cut down were all old trees with large trunk diameters.
To serve the construction of the project to expand the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa, the Traffic Department had to cut down 6 water scorpion trees, 2 mango trees with an average height of 5m; Along Truong Chinh Street from the border of Cong Hoa Street to the end of the project area (about 420m from Pham Van Bach Street), 17 monkey skull trees and 1 8m high banyan tree were cut down.
The felling time is from November 7 to November 17. The construction unit will cut branches, prune branches, saw close to the base of the tree, and divide the tree trunk into many sections to facilitate relocation. The overall plan for felling and relocating trees has been submitted to the Department of Construction and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval. Accordingly, the investor will replant many trees after completing the project, including: rosewood, Indian laurel, ironwood... depending on the location along the sidewalk on the road.
Regarding firewood and timber after cutting down trees, the Traffic Department said it will hand them over to the management unit, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center under the Department of Construction, so that the center can carry out liquidation procedures and pay the state budget according to regulations.
Previously, to implement the underpass project at the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen intersection within the scope of the connecting road project, about 1,600 m2 of Hoang Van Thu Park was also cleared and a temporary road was built to serve the construction. More than 300 trees in this area were also cut down and relocated. After the project is completed, the investor will return about 700 m2 to replant trees, the remaining area will be used as sidewalks for pedestrians.
The Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project started in December 2022, with a total investment of more than 4,800 billion VND. This is a traffic project to solve the congestion situation for the Tan Son Nhat gateway area. The starting point of the project is at the intersection of Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen; the end point is at the intersection of C12 - Cong Hoa - Truong Chinh with a total length of more than 4 km, a cross-section of 6 lanes, and a design speed of 50 km/h.
