Gathering with family

Unlike ordinary days, the two holidays of April 30th and May 1st were truly meaningful for the family of Ms. Lai Thi Tay Phuong, Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Son Ha Hue Co., Ltd. She and her husband didn't have to rush to work, and her children didn't have to worry about getting to school on time. From early morning on April 30th, the whole family woke up early to watch the online parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country; afterwards, they went to entertainment centers together, fully enjoying the holiday.

Ms. Phuong shared: "I want my child to feel the celebratory atmosphere everywhere, so that they will be more proud and motivated to study and become a useful member of society."

Ms. Lai Thi Phuong Tay's family took the opportunity to take their children out to play.

To meet order deadlines, her company only closed for the two main holidays, April 30th and May 1st, so her family chose to travel near home to make it easier to return to work. Even though they didn't travel far, the family members felt the holiday was very fulfilling. “During this holiday, the company rewarded employees with bonuses ranging from 300,000 to over 1 million VND, depending on their contribution, with priority given to direct workers. The company's care and attention made all the employees very happy,” the female union president said.  

Ms. Le Thi Hong Thanh and her husband also dedicated their entire holiday to their two young children. Ms. Thanh shared that her husband works in the North and only comes home once every few months. "My children always look forward to big holidays so they can all be together. For me, just a few holidays, with the whole family eating meals together, is the happiest thing," she said.

The workers at Hue Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company were delighted to have two days off for the holiday. Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, a worker at Factory 1, shared: “In this difficult economic climate, I don’t think about the amount of time off, I just hope to have regular work and a stable income. During the two days off, I took my children to visit their grandparents, had a family meal, and then returned to work. The children studied, and my husband and I went to the sewing line.”

Sharing about the production plan and employee welfare during this period, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hau, Deputy General Director and Chairman of the Trade Union of Hue Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company, said that the company is entering a peak period of competition to complete export orders to the US amidst market fluctuations in tariffs. Therefore, the company has arranged a reasonable holiday schedule, ensuring both employee rights and production. In addition, each employee receives a bonus from the company as a token of appreciation for their companionship and commitment to the company during this important period.

Take advantage of opportunities to earn extra income.

The holiday for Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Uyen, a worker at SCAVI Hue Company, was also filled with joy and happiness. From early morning, the couple went to the market and prepared a lavish meal. "The company is closed for two days this holiday. On the first day, the whole family ate, drank, and went out, and on the second day, my husband and I took the opportunity to work in the garden," Ms. Uyen recounted.

Uyen and her husband are both factory workers. Besides their jobs at the factory, they use their free time to garden and supplement their income. She grows vegetables and cultivates a thousand bags of oyster mushrooms, while her husband tends to ornamental apricot trees. "Being together, working and chatting at the same time, that's happiness," she shared.  

This year, for the April 30th and May 1st holidays, all employees of MSV Co., Ltd. (Phu Bai Industrial Park) were given 5 days off. Everyone chose their own way to celebrate. For Ms. Le Thi Dieu, every day off was carefully planned. "I spent one day taking my children sightseeing around Hue, and the rest of the time I used to sell goods online," she said while packing orders for customers. "This is a side job I've been doing for many years. On weekdays, I don't have time to deliver, so the holidays are a chance to collect and fulfill orders."

During the holiday, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Uyen and her daughter took the opportunity to tend to their vegetable garden.

Meanwhile, many young workers form small groups and go on short trips together to explore historical and cultural landmarks in the area.

Mr. Hoang Trong Lam, Head of the Legal Policy and Labor Relations Department of the Hue City Federation of Labor, said: This year, for the April 30th and May 1st holidays, most manufacturing enterprises arranged for employees to take two days off as per regulations. However, depending on the production situation, many enterprises still granted longer leave.

“To help workers enjoy more benefits than stipulated by law, every year, the City Federation of Labor Unions guides labor unions in enterprises to negotiate with employers to increase the number of days off and provide bonuses for workers. Many grassroots labor unions have included this content in collective labor agreements. As a result, during this holiday season, many businesses have granted longer holidays and provided bonuses, encouraging workers to work harder and remain committed to the company,” said Mr. Hoang Trong Lam.
