In Hanoi , residents in many apartment buildings clearly felt the shaking. The Cau Giay and An Khanh areas were particularly affected.
Regarding this phenomenon, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), stated that the cause was an aftershock from a recent earthquake in Liuzhou (China).
This was the second earthquake of the day in the Liuzhou area. Earlier, at approximately 00:21 on May 18th, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Liuzhou city's Liunan district, with an epicenter at a depth of 8km. The earthquake caused the collapse of 13 buildings, injured 4 people, killed 2, left 1 missing, and evacuated over 7,000 people.
