Mu Cang Chai has complex mountainous terrain, difficult production conditions, but possesses great potential for specialty crops and livestock. However, small-scale, fragmented production in the past has made agricultural products difficult to compete, low value, and farmers' income unstable. Recognizing these advantages and difficulties, the District Farmers' Association has proactively developed many specific programs and plans to encourage and support farmers to participate in collective economic models.
Mr. Truong Dang Hung - Chairman of the District Farmers' Association said: "We identify the collective economy as the key to improving production capacity, accessing larger markets and enhancing farmers' rights. To carry out this task, the Association has implemented many synchronous solutions. Propaganda sessions to raise awareness for farmers are regularly organized through training, seminars, and sending Association officials to villages to clearly explain the benefits of the collective economy, eliminating farmers' prejudices and concerns. Association officials also coordinate with functional agencies to guide the establishment process, build charters, production and business plans for new cooperatives and cooperative groups."
In the 5 months of 2025, based on the strengths of each locality, the Association mobilized farmers to establish 4 new professional farmer associations, 8 cooperative groups (THT), 2 cooperatives (HTX). Typical examples include the buffalo ginger growing cooperative with a scale of 3 households, an area of 2,000m2, supported by the District Farmers' Association in coordination with Dragon Vietnam Investment Company Limited to grow and consume products; the buffalo and cow raising cooperative with a scale of 20-30 heads in Dao Xa village - Kim Noi commune, Xeo Di Ho A village - Lao Chai commune, Na Hang village - Che Tao commune...
By participating in cooperatives and cooperative groups, in addition to attending training courses on technology transfer, information provision, and product consumption connections, farmers are also supported with loans through the Farmers Support Fund and loan groups of the District Social Policy Bank. Thanks to that, the number of cooperatives and cooperative groups in the district has increased significantly, and the operating models are increasingly professional and effective.
Up to now, Mu Cang Chai farmers have established 10 cooperatives with 96 members, 68 cooperative groups with 251 members, and 19 professional farmer associations with 547 members.
By participating in the collective economic form, farmers here have raised their awareness, management skills, and solidarity to help each other in production and life. Cooperatives and cooperative groups have promoted their role in linking member households to shift from small-scale production to concentrated, large-scale production, ensuring product quality and quantity, thereby having the opportunity to access units that consume products, create jobs, contribute to rapidly reducing the poverty rate, and gradually become rich in their homeland.
Mr. Ly A Tinh - Director of Nha Pao Ly Agricultural Cooperative, Nam Khat commune shared: "The cooperative has 6 hectares specializing in imported French roses with 13 members who are all Mong people, an increase of 6 members compared to the first day of establishment, with an average income of 6 - 15 million VND/person/month depending on the position. The cooperative also creates seasonal jobs for about 40 local workers with a wage of 250,000 VND/person/day. Everyone is excited and confident in this development path."
The District Farmers' Association will continue to replicate effective collective economic models, strengthen market connections, and apply high technology to bring highland agricultural products further, bringing a prosperous and happy life to local farmers.
Up to now, the outstanding loan balance entrusted to the District Social Policy Bank through the Farmers' Association is 124,027 million VND with 2,207 households borrowing capital; the outstanding unsecured loan balance with the District Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development is 20 billion VND with 488 households borrowing capital. In addition, the Farmers' Support Fund is implementing 9 projects for 27 households borrowing capital of 277 million VND. |
