Dong Thap: Spring of love comes to poor children.

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse, alongside the bustling atmosphere of well-off families buying clothes and gifts for their children, there are still poor children in difficult circumstances who are eagerly awaiting New Year's gifts.

Understanding this, in recent days, the Children's Protection Fund (under the Department of Health), the People's Committees of communes and wards, and local political and social organizations have actively connected and mobilized resources from organizations, individuals, units, and philanthropists to support the organization of a series of Tet gift-giving programs for children, contributing to helping them have a joyful and warm spring season.

THE JOY OF TET GIFTS

Truong Xuan Secondary School (Truong Xuan commune) recently held the "Spring for Children" program to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, organized by the Children's Protection Fund (under the Department of Health ) in coordination with Dong Thap Construction and Building Materials Joint Stock Company and the People's Committee of Truong Xuan commune.

Leaders of the Children's Protection Fund (under the Department of Health) presented gifts to children in Truong Xuan commune at the "Spring for Children" program.

In the warm atmosphere of the program, the Children's Protection Fund presented 50 gifts (500,000 VND each) to children from poor and near-poor households, those with particularly difficult circumstances, disabilities, serious illnesses, and those at risk of dropping out of school due to extremely difficult family circumstances, who are studying at preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools in Truong Xuan commune.

The total cost of the gifts was 25 million VND, funded by donations from the Children's Protection Fund.

Holding the Tet gift in her hands, Le Bao Xuyen, a student in class 6A1 at Thanh Loi Secondary School (Truong Xuan commune), couldn't hide her emotion. Bao Xuyen said that her family is poor, and her parents work as laborers to support their three daughters.

Life is difficult for my family, so my parents haven't been able to buy me new clothes for Tet (Lunar New Year). "I'm so happy to receive Tet gifts because my parents will have money to buy new clothes and sweets for the three of us sisters," Bao Xuyen confided.

Huynh Thi Thu Hong, a student in class 6A2 at Truong Xuan Secondary School, also expressed her joy at receiving the Tet gift: “My family is still struggling financially, so my parents rarely buy me new clothes for Tet. This year, receiving 500,000 VND as a Tet gift makes me very happy. I will use this money to buy new clothes.”

Returning home with her granddaughter after receiving Tet gifts, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuy, residing in Hamlet 6B, Truong Xuan Commune, emotionally said: "Hearing that my granddaughter received Tet gifts, I was so happy and looked forward to the day I took her to receive them. My family is very poor; my children work in Ho Chi Minh City and sent my granddaughter to me to raise."

"My husband and I work as laborers, so our income is unstable. Now that my grandchild has received Tet gifts, I am happy and grateful to the benefactors, the school, and the local community for their support. Thanks to them, my grandchild will have a happier Tet holiday."

Not only at the gift-giving event in Truong Xuan commune, but in recent days, the People's Committees of communes and wards, along with political and social organizations in the province, have actively mobilized and organized the giving of hundreds of Tet gifts to children from poor households and those with difficult circumstances, helping them to enjoy the spring and celebrate Tet fully.

Besides local support, schools also pay close attention to students, actively campaigning for Tet gifts, organizing vibrant cultural and fashion shows for them to participate in.

This contributes to bringing spiritual joy and further motivating the children to excel in their studies and lives, especially to celebrate a warm Tet holiday with their families.

Recently, Thien Ho Duong Primary School (Dao Thanh Ward) organized the "Vibrant Spring Festival 2026" program with the participation of over 900 students. At the program, the students enjoyed many artistic performances and a fashion show with vibrant, lively, and impressive colors.

In addition, the students participated in folk games, visited and enjoyed food at the stalls, and took souvenir photos amidst beautifully decorated spring scenes in the school grounds. The highlight of the program was the school's sharing and care for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

On this occasion, Thien Ho Duong Primary School presented 120 Tet gifts (1 million VND each) to 120 students.

Nguyen Cao Quoc Khanh, a 5th grade student from Thien Ho Duong Primary School, said: “I’m so happy to participate in the program. I got to watch performances, play games, and even receive Tet gifts.”

According to Deputy Principal Vo Huynh Phuong Thao of Thien Ho Duong Primary School: “Through this program, the school hopes to create a joyful and exciting atmosphere for the students at the beginning of the new school year.”

"In particular, the gifts and support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds are not only material assistance, but the school also hopes to contribute to their spiritual joy so that these students can celebrate the Lunar New Year in a warmer and more fulfilling way."

JOIN HANDS TO CARE FOR CHILDREN

In order to care for and help children from poor and near-poor households and those with difficult circumstances to enjoy a warm and joyful Lunar New Year in 2026, the Children's Protection Fund has mobilized organizations, individuals, units, businesses, and philanthropists to support the organization of the "Spring for Children" program.

The Women's Union of Tan Thanh commune provided Tet gifts to orphaned children who are being cared for through the foster mother program.

To implement the program, the Children's Protection Fund, in coordination with sponsoring units and local authorities, organized the distribution of 460 Tet gifts to children from poor and near-poor households and those with particularly difficult circumstances in 20 communes in the province.

In addition, localities in the province are actively mobilizing resources to organize Tet gift distributions for poor and disadvantaged children. Mr. Mai Thuc Binh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Truong Xuan commune, said: “Besides the support from the Children's Protection Fund, the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, in coordination with sponsoring units, organized the donation of 300 Tet gifts to disadvantaged children (each gift worth 800,000 VND). These Tet gifts help the children have better conditions to enjoy a warm and joyful spring.”

Students of Thien Ho Duong Primary School receive Tet gifts at the "Joyful Spring 2026" program organized by the school.

In addition, local socio-political organizations play a core role in implementing and mobilizing businesses and philanthropists to sponsor programs that provide gifts for children.

Women's Union branches at all levels, along with many officials, members, and women in the province, have overcome difficulties and long distances to bring Tet gifts to children in remote and border areas.

These trucks, laden with Tet gifts, not only carry sweets and essential supplies but also human kindness and warm sharing amidst the spring season.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Hien, President of the Women's Union of Tan Thanh commune, during the Lunar New Year of 2026, through the support of the Provincial Women's Union, the Provincial Police Women's Union, and the mobilization efforts of the commune's Women's Union, the Union provided 14 scholarships and 100 gifts to disadvantaged women and children in difficult circumstances, with a total value of over 60 million VND.

"Seeing the smiles on the children's faces when they receive gifts makes all the hard work worthwhile. That's the motivation for us to continue doing even better in caring for children in the coming years," shared Nguyen Thi Be Hien, President of the Women's Union of Tan Thanh commune.

Together with the Women's Union, the Youth Union and other organizations at all levels in the province have been providing many meaningful Tet gifts for children. The Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union, the Provincial Children's Council, and the Provincial Children's House organized the art program "Sharing Spring - Loving Tet".

Through this initiative, 160 Tet gifts were distributed to children, and 50 scholarships were awarded to underprivileged students and youth group members who excelled in their studies despite difficult circumstances.

At the same time, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Children's Council also organized the "Spring Sharing - Tet of Love" program at An Thai Dong Primary and Secondary School (My Loi commune), presenting more than 230 Tet gifts to disadvantaged students and young members who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies in the province, with a total value of 130 million VND.

These simple Tet gifts, though not substantial in material value, are filled with affection and demonstrate the care and sharing spirit of the Party, the State, and society for children.

Thanks to this, underprivileged children will be able to alleviate some of their disadvantages and welcome a more joyful and warm new spring season.
