This is the first high-speed railway project in Vietnam. It is also a key project of Ho Chi Minh City, launched alongside a series of major projects nationwide, commemorating National Resistance Day and celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Laying the foundation for a 350km/h high-speed rail system in Vietnam.
The line is 54km long, with a maximum speed of 350km/h, starting at Ben Thanh and ending at Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio. After becoming operational, expected in the fourth quarter of 2028, the line will contribute to the development of the national railway infrastructure, promoting trade, tourism, real estate, and especially the marine economy for Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway line starts at 23 September Park (Ben Thanh ward) and ends at the 39-hectare plot of land adjacent to the Can Gio coastal tourism urban area project (Can Gio commune).
The project starts at Km0+00 within the September 23rd Park, running along the park's grounds parallel to Le Lai Street, then to Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, before turning to run along Ky Con Street and crossing the Ben Nghe Canal.
After crossing the Ben Nghe canal, the route turns northeast onto Hoang Dieu Street, then follows Hoang Dieu Street to the intersection with Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, turning southeast to closely follow the corridor of Doan Nhu Hai Street.
The route runs straight through the Nha Rong port area to near the Tan Thuan 2 bridge, then turns southeast onto Nguyen Van Linh road, passing the intersection with Nguyen Thi Thap road to Tan My ward.
The route continues south, passing the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh Street and Phu My Bridge to Nguyen Luong Bang Street. The route then turns southeast, passing between Nguyen Luong Bang Street, Road 15B, and Road D1 to the Rach Dia River overpass at Km9+800, entering Nha Be commune.
After passing through Nha Be commune, the route turns southeast through the Van Phat Hung resettlement area, Phu Xuan residential area, crosses the Soai Rap river to Binh Khanh commune, and runs towards Can Gio station.
At the ceremony, Mr. Le Khac Hiep, Vice Chairman of Vingroup , stated that the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway line will open a new chapter for the modern railway industry in Vietnam. From this beginning, we will lay the first bricks for the future national high-speed rail ecosystem, creating a foundation for breakthrough developments in the country.

When it begins commercial operation, expected in the fourth quarter of 2028, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway line will contribute to realizing the national transportation development strategy, while opening up new development opportunities for Ho Chi Minh City - a sustainable, green, and prosperous space based on technology and knowledge.
"We believe that the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway line, once operational, will contribute to Ho Chi Minh City's progress towards modern development standards in the region and the world, helping people fully enjoy the values of advanced, sustainable, and humane infrastructure," Mr. Hiep said.
The procedure is a record-breakingly fast implementation process, a model being applied to new projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong said that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway line is an event of special significance for the socio-economic development of the city and the Southern Key Economic Region in the new context and new development space.
