Breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of dangerous cardiovascular diseases.

NDO - The University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City has just made a significant mark in the healthcare industry by successfully implementing the advanced NIRS-IVUS technology. This is the first time this technology has been deployed in Vietnam, opening a new chapter in the diagnosis and treatment of dangerous cardiovascular diseases.

Previously, the hospital had just applied the new NIRS-IVUS technology to assess the condition of coronary atherosclerosis and analyze the composition of atherosclerotic plaques in a 46-year-old patient. This is the first advanced technology of its kind in Vietnam, offering new hope in the detection and treatment of dangerous cardiovascular diseases.

According to Dr. Tran Duc Trung, a specialist in Interventional Cardiology at the University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City, NIRS-IVUS technology plays a crucial role in detecting lesions invisible to the naked eye: "The NIRS-IVUS system uses near-infrared spectroscopy, emitting far-infrared rays to identify lesions with high lipid density, thereby selecting appropriate treatment strategies for each specific case."

This technology will assess the extent of damage within atherosclerotic plaques, helping doctors select optimal interventional devices such as stents or balloons to achieve the best results in coronary intervention.

Dr. Tran Duc Trung, a Master's degree holder, emphasized that this technology has the potential to detect atherosclerotic plaques at early stages, posing a risk of myocardial infarction and helping doctors identify plaques that require intervention. Although these plaques may not cause coronary artery blockage, they still pose a high risk.

"The most important benefit of the NIRS system is that it helps us examine atherosclerotic plaques that may seem narrow but actually have high lipid levels. Thanks to this, we can detect vulnerable plaques, intervene early, and help patients avoid the risk of myocardial infarction later," shared Master of Science, Doctor Tran Duc Trung.

NIRS-IVUS technology not only supports diagnosis and treatment but also opens up many important research avenues in the field of cardiology. Data obtained from this technology will contribute to the development of new recommendations, improving the effectiveness of cardiovascular treatment and intervention, thereby bringing greater benefits to patients.
