On December 6-7, the Vietnam Neurosurgery Association, in collaboration with the University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City (UMC Hospital), organized the 23rd Vietnam Neurosurgery Conference.

The conference is not only an annual medical event but also a significant milestone marking remarkable advances in the field of neurosurgery. The event brings together over 400 delegates and leading experts from Vietnam and internationally, creating a multifaceted and meaningful scientific forum.

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Minh Anh - Deputy Director of the University Medical Center Hospital - delivered a speech at the opening of the conference.

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Minh Anh, Deputy Director of the University Medical Center Hospital, stated: "The skull and spine are the most complex and important anatomical structures of a patient. This conference is a valuable opportunity for us to exchange clinical experiences from typical cases and update new research in the field of neurology, aiming for the highest goal of effective treatment, helping patients lead healthy lives, and reducing the burden on their families and the community."

The focus of the conference was on groundbreaking advances in neurosurgery, including advanced techniques such as white matter dissection, nerve localization, tumor staining with color indicators, and intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring. These technologies not only increase the rate of lesion removal but also maximize the preservation of neurological functions, improving patients' quality of life. In addition, 3D printing and functional magnetic resonance imaging were applied to detailed surgical planning, enhancing accuracy and safety.

The conference also showcased a range of cutting-edge technologies such as laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and artificial intelligence (AI). AI is applied to analyze medical images, create personalized surgical plans, and optimize treatment effectiveness. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies support training and surgical simulation, helping doctors improve their skills and create more accurate plans. Robotic surgical support systems are also used as a tool to increase accuracy and reduce complications.

Beyond technical advancements, the conference also provided a platform for experts to exchange ideas on cutting-edge applications in minimally invasive neurosurgery, cranial base surgery, deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease, and spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain treatment. The integration of technology into smart operating rooms is expected to revolutionize the surgical industry, leading to improved efficiency and reduced risks.

A notable event at this year's conference was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Neurosurgery Association and the Asian Neurosurgery Association. This represents a significant step forward in promoting international cooperation in training, education , professional support, and experience exchange among experts in the region. This agreement not only opens up opportunities for professional development but also affirms the position of Vietnamese neurosurgery on the international stage.

The nursing session was highlighted by the inclusion of a workshop by the Asian Society of Neurosurgical Nurses, emphasizing the crucial role of nurses in neurosurgical practice. This was a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese nurses to learn, exchange experiences, enhance their professional skills, and strengthen cooperation with international colleagues in the field of nursing.
