The effectiveness of “first distance”
It can be said that the opening of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway on the occasion of the 30/4 and 1/5 holidays lasting 5 days is a clear proof of the effectiveness of the story of the most distance. Thanks to the shortening of about 2 hours, Binh Thuan tourism has welcomed twice as many visitors, and revenue has increased compared to the same period last year. The reason mentioned is because tourists want to experience the new expressway, but through that, it is more or less realized that for a long time, many tourists from other places want to travel to Binh Thuan, but are afraid of the road. Now, the expressway has connected to Phan Thiet city at km 14, Ham Kiem commune, Ham Thuan Nam district. Also at this point, the Ham Kiem - Tien Thanh route is under construction, will be opened to traffic in the near future, the main thing is also to create the most distance advantage for the southern tourist area of the province. In fact, currently tourists follow the DT 719 route at the turnoff in Tien Loi commune (Phan Thiet city) but it is not very convenient, not very airy, when put in the situation of cars from the highway pouring in, cars from the North of Phan Thiet city follow, if not take the shortcut. During the holidays, tourists from everywhere followed that route and the coastal tourist area in the South of the province welcomed a number of visitors that dominated the whole province.
According to the report of the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City, during the 5-day holiday, Phan Thiet City, the central tourist attraction area of the province, welcomed about 128,000 visitors, double that of the same period last year; of which, the number of international tourists was about 11,744, an increase of 7 times. Specifically, the Ham Tien - Mui Ne area, which has long been considered attractive, had 32,090 visitors; meanwhile, Doi Duong - Tien Thanh tourist area welcomed about 59,577 visitors. Compared to the same period in 2022 with 30,752 visitors, this year the number of visitors here increased by 93.73%. Not only at Doi Duong - Thuong Chanh Park with a total number of visitors coming to swim, visit, and picnic about 40,000, an increase of 100% over the same period, but at Tien Thanh Tourist Area, there are 8 tourist facilities operating to welcome about 19,577 visitors, including foreign visitors coming to stay, visit, and picnic, also increased by 82.07%. In particular, at NovaWorld Phan Thiet alone, the economic - tourist urban area stretching over 7km of Tien Thanh coastal road, Phan Thiet with a scale of 1,000 hectares, has built a comprehensive "all in one" ecosystem with hundreds of international-class tourism, resort, sports, and entertainment facilities, this occasion attracted up to 16,000 visitors to stay, visit, and take pictures, an increase of 88.23% over the same period in 2022 (8,500 visitors).
Also along this coastal route, Ham Thuan Nam welcomed 14,100 tourists, including visitors and those staying; while La Gi town welcomed 30,000 visitors and those staying. All of these numbers increased compared to the same period last year, depending on the number of accommodations.
Region of tourist cities
Since the holiday, there have been signs of tourism's vitality returning, thanks in particular to the distance from the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway and the upcoming Phan Thiet - Vinh Hao Expressway. These expressways, when completed, not only create smooth traffic and trade connections, but also open up breakthrough opportunities for tourism, socio-economics, and real estate in Binh Thuan province and the region. Regarding the formation of tourist urban areas, the southern coastal area of the province is considered to have a large development potential. For example, at the NovaWorld Phan Thiet economic - tourist urban area, up to now, the investor has handed over thousands of products to customers in the Florida subdivision on schedule as well as put into operation phase 1 of utilities such as the 5-star Movenpick Resort Phan Thiet Hotel, 4-star Radisson Resort Phan Thiet, 36-hole PGA golf course cluster; Circus Land amusement park, Bikini Beach Square - Sea Park, Sport Complex sports center, restaurant chain, coffee shop... With infrastructure that can attract hundreds of thousands of domestic and international tourists to come and play, since the beginning of 2023, when hearing the news that the expressway will reach the finish line on the occasion of the April 30 holiday, a series of investors have quickly received the handover of houses, rushed to construct interiors, and made business plans to settle down, relax and do business to catch up with the wave of tourism. The results have gone as expected. Therefore, currently, the investment wave is spreading, becoming a driving force to retain existing investors as well as attract potential investors to look for established tourist cities such as NovaWorld Phan Thiet to seek investment opportunities, exploit business, and expand the market in the near future.
This is also an opportunity for the surrounding areas of Thuan Quy and Tan Thanh of Ham Thuan Nam district, where in 2019 and 2020, the Provincial People's Committee approved the adjustment of the Master Plan for the construction of coastal areas of the two communes. Specifically, the strip of land along the coast connecting Thuan Quy to Tan Thanh is planned entirely for tourism development, and adjacent to it is an area for mixed residential land. With a total land use ratio for tourism and residential land up to 70% of the total land fund of the commune, this place is and will form a large coastal tourism metropolis with a series of high-end tourism, entertainment and resort complexes. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, this cannot be implemented in practice, although there are currently two major projects: the Resort, High-class Residential and Marine Sports Complex Project with a total investment of VND 4,980 billion and the Thanh Long Bay project with an investment capital of VND 210 billion.
From there, the planning also determines that the population is expected to increase by 2030 and 2040 to ensure that this coastal strip has a mixed space for residential, tourism and commercial services with models suitable for both natural conditions and development needs. For example, in Thuan Quy, a commune adjacent to NovaWorld Phan Thiet, by 2030 there must be about 35,800 people; by 2040 about 59,000 people with the purpose of socio-economic development; rationally exploiting and effectively using the potential to serve tourism needs associated with good management and protection of the landscape - marine ecological environment; contributing to perfecting the tourism system of the province.
This shows that this coastal area has a large space for the formation of tourist cities. And once tourism develops, it will lead to the emergence of a series of ancillary businesses serving tourism, thereby creating thousands of jobs for workers, contributing to stabilizing livelihoods, increasing income, and improving the quality of life for local people. Therefore, it is better to understand why Binh Thuan considers tourism as a key economic sector and must achieve the target of welcoming 6.7 million visitors in 2023.
