Predicting the benchmark scores for Social Sciences to enter universities in 2024
On the morning of June 8, candidates nationwide took the combined exam of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences in the 2024 high school graduation exam. The Natural Sciences exam includes Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The Social Sciences exam includes History, Geography, and CivicEducation .
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this year, 1,071,395 candidates nationwide registered to take the exam, an increase of about 45,000 candidates compared to last year. Of these, 37% of candidates registered to take the Natural Science exam and up to 63% of candidates chose the Social Science exam. Compared to last year, the number of candidates choosing the Social Science exam increased by 7.7%.
So how will the Social Science admission scores for universities in 2024 change when the number of exams skyrockets?

Speaking to Dan Viet Newspaper, Master of Law Trinh Huu Chung, Vice Principal of Gia Dinh University, said: "More than 670,000 out of about one million candidates registering for the 2024 high school graduation exam chose the Social Science exam, accounting for 63%, the highest in the past 7 years. Compared to last year, the number of candidates choosing the Social Science exam increased by 7.7% and is the highest since 2017. This shows that universities that train and recruit majors in the field of Social Sciences will have many opportunities to recruit students.
It is expected that the admission score for the Social Science group in 2024 will increase, depending on the major and the competition rate at the schools. For Gia Dinh University, we will consider admission for majors in the Social Science field such as: Law, Economic Law, Oriental Studies, English Language, Public Relations, Multimedia Communications, Communication Technology, which will increase by 1-2.0 points compared to 2023 (admission by High School Transcript: 15.5-17 points, admission by High School Exam results is 15-16 points) depending on the admission method to the school this year".
Mr. Nguyen Minh Dat, a Literature teacher at a high school in Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "This year's Literature exam was easier than last year's and the scores were highly differentiated according to the subject's characteristics. The number of candidates with weak or poor scores (below average) was very small. The number of candidates with the highest score was 7 points.
Notably, there are not many candidates with excellent scores, above 8.0. The number of students with scores of 9 or higher is also very small. This score range shows that the benchmark score will not fluctuate much, similar to last year. The benchmark score for the Social Sciences block to enter top and mid-top universities in 2024 will not fluctuate much.
In general, the benchmark scores for Social Sciences in general and C00 in particular are always high. Some schools have reached nearly 29 points, and in 2022 it reached 30 points... This year, the number of candidates registering has increased, so parents and candidates should consider registering."
