With an interesting space, the science discovery center in Quy Nhon has helped tourists freely experience and explore, becoming one of the unique tourist destinations of Binh Dinh.
Attracting thousands of visitors every day
The Binh Dinh Center for Scientific Discovery and Innovation is located in Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City, about 10km from the center, surrounded by cool green mountains. This is the first space science center in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia.
Although it has only been in operation since 2022, this place has become a destination that attracts a large number of people and tourists. This is not the peak tourist season in Quy Nhon, but the Science Discovery Center is always crowded with visitors.
Mr. Tran Hoang Bao Hieu - Head of Communications at Quy Nhon Science Discovery Center said that the center consists of two buildings: the main building and the observatory. The main building includes 7 exhibition rooms with different themes, such as exploring Mars, the solar system, natural resources, interesting science shows, etc. Along with that is a space projection room, the most modern in Vietnam.
During peak season, the center receives an average of 1,000 visitors per day. Currently, visitors are mainly from other provinces, traveling in tours or groups. Compared to last year, the center's revenue and number of visitors increased by about 20%.
Bringing science closer to life
Not only is it an attractive destination with an interesting space, the center is also a place to bring science closer to the public, inspiring and promoting passion and scientific creativity among young people.
Here, seemingly dry and abstract scientific knowledge is conveyed intuitively and vividly through models and real-life experiences.
There are shows of electricity and static electricity with hair-raising experiments; lightning sparks show... to help observe lightning in the most realistic way. Visitors can also directly experience the exciting lightning cage. Not only children but also adults are fascinated and cannot take their eyes off.
At Quy Nhon Observatory, visitors can participate in activities such as visiting the astronomical history exhibition, learning about different types of telescopes, helping to observe the planets of the solar system, galaxies, etc.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tue - the staff in charge of the observatory said: "The center has opened its doors to welcome visitors with many scientific experience programs at night. At the observatory, due to limited space, we only receive a maximum of about 50 visitors each night. Seeing you enjoy it makes us very happy and we hope to be able to convey our passion for science to young people", Mr. Tue said.
In particular, the observatory has the largest and most modern telescope in Vietnam with a diameter of 60cm.
According to Mr. Tue, this glass system is very modern, has a weather monitoring system, and is intelligently integrated so it can work remotely. In addition to serving tourists who come to visit and learn about activities, this glass is also used to conduct scientific research. A number of articles published in prestigious journals are derived from the data of this glass. Many research groups and domestic and international partners have linked up to bring students here to research and practice.
In addition, the science discovery center also has STEM educational activities, hands-on activities, and outdoor science discovery games, becoming a destination for extracurricular activities of the school.
“Binh Dinh is aiming to develop Quy Nhon into a technology city, so it must develop the level and comprehensive education of students. One of the tasks assigned by the province to the center is to develop STEM and Robotics,” said Mr. Tran Hoang Bao Hieu.
