The rising water of the Hoai River has flooded some streets in the ancient town of Hoi An. This is also an opportunity for tourists to experience the flood season here.
In recent days, heavy rain combined with the release of regulated water from upstream hydropower plants has caused the water level on the Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers to rise. The Hoai River, a branch of the Thu Bon River, is no exception, causing flooding in many streets of Hoi An ancient town. According to records on the evening of November 25, the streets along the Hoai River such as Bach Dang, Cong Nu Ngoc Hoa, and the Chua Cau arc were flooded from 0.5m to 1.5m, nearly reaching alert level 2. Tourists often rent boats to cruise along the Hoai River, admiring the scenery of the ancient town during the flood season. In particular, at low water sections, cyclo drivers are ready to pedal across so that visitors can experience and take pictures. Mr. Pham Quang Vu, a cyclo driver in Hoi An ancient town, shared: "A small section of about 50m on Nguyen Thai Hoc street, the water rose about 50cm, we tried to pedal across so that visitors could take pictures and film. Only when we were sure that the section was safe and not dangerous for visitors, did we dare to go." Many tourists visiting Hoi An ancient town also enjoy wading in water to take pictures or sit in a cafe to watch the street during the flood season. Ms. Ha Anh, a tourist from Hanoi , shared: "I have heard about the "specialty" of the flood season in Hoi An for a long time, but this is the first time I have witnessed it with my own eyes. I also feel sorry for the local people, every time like that, cleaning up is very difficult. We just stand in the low water area, taking a few souvenir photos". At the localized flooding point right in front of An Hoi bridge, visitors wanting to get on the bridge need to wade through the water. At this time, many people take advantage of this opportunity to open a motorbike service to take visitors across the water. Ms. Le Thi Nien, a tour guide, shared: "Many guests wear leather shoes or sneakers , they are very afraid of wading through water. When asking for their opinions, they all agreed to use the option of renting a car, each car costs 10,000 VND for a flooded road of about 15m. Because the water level is low, and the detour is quite far to take guests to the car, we chose the above option". Mr. Vo Dang Phong - Chairman of Minh An ward, Hoi An city - said that to ensure the safety of people and tourists during the flood season, the locality has sent militia to block and remind tourists to limit going to deeply flooded roads to take souvenir photos to ensure safety of their lives.
