According to the Department of Transport, Metro Line 1 will be subsidized by the budget to encourage people and increase competitiveness compared to other types of vehicles.

Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20 km long, from Long Binh depot, Thu Duc to Ben Thanh, District 1. In addition to 11 elevated stations, the line also has three underground stations in the city center: Ben Thanh, City Theater and Ba Son.

Metro Line 1 project started construction in August 2012. After more than 12 years of construction, the entire project has completed 98% of the volume but there are still some problems that need to be resolved for commercial operation, expected at the end of 2024.
