The project was approved by the Prime Minister in the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, with EVN as the investor and Power Project Management Board 3 directly managing it. The project has a total investment of nearly 4 trillion VND, including 2 units with an installed capacity of 200MW.
Recently, EVN, Power Project Management Board 3 and the consortium of winning bidders signed a contract for the construction and installation package of the Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion project. This is the main package of the project with a total contract value of over 1.4 trillion VND, with a construction period of 960 days.
The existing Tri An Hydropower Plant was inaugurated in 1991, with a total designed capacity of 400MW. This is the largest hydropower project in the South, contributing greatly to the national grid, helping to regulate water sources for daily life, production, repelling salinity and regulating floods for downstream areas.
