Expected start date for the expansion of the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway.

The project to expand the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway (section from An Phu interchange to Ring Road 2) will commence in the third quarter of 2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just submitted a report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee regarding the investment plan for the project to expand the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway (section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2) from 4 lanes to 8 lanes.

According to the plan developed by the Department of Transportation, the project will be implemented from 2024 to 2027.

Specifically, from Q2 to Q3 2024, the investment policy proposal will be prepared, submitted for appraisal, and approved. From Q4 2024 to Q1 2025, the feasibility study report will be prepared and submitted to the competent authority for appraisal and approval.

Other tasks such as design approval and contractor selection will be carried out from Q1 to Q3 2025.

Construction on the project will commence in Q3/2025; it will be put into operation from Q4/2026; and the final settlement will be in Q2/2027.

The project has a total investment of VND 938.9 billion, funded by the Ho Chi Minh City budget. The Department of Transportation proposes allocating VND 156.5 billion during the 2024-2025 period.

In the following years, 470 billion VND will be allocated in 2026 and over 312 billion VND in 2027 to implement the Project.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, survey data from July 2023 shows that the traffic volume on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh expressway, around the Ring Road 2 interchange, is approximately 71,667 vehicles per day and night.

The volume of traffic has exceeded the capacity of the access road from the An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2, which was designed to handle only about 50,000 vehicles per day by 2025.

Therefore, investing in expanding the expressway section from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh, including the section from the An Phu interchange to Ring Road 2, is essential and urgent to connect to Long Thanh International Airport and resolve the current traffic congestion.
