Quynh Son Community Tourism: Candidate for “Best Tourist Village”

Quynh Son Community Tourism Village (DLCĐ) is the first community tourism village in the province, established and put into operation since 2010. The village has a favorable geographical location near National Highway 1B connecting Lang Son and Thai Nguyen provinces. The village is located in the Bac Son Uprising National Special Relic Site and the Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark (GGP) with beautiful natural landscapes, culture imbued with national identity associated with heroic history.

Quynh Son Community Village currently has 9 homestays with many attractive experiential services such as: campfire, baking, enjoying local specialties and cultural exchange with traditional Then singing, Vi singing, Tan Dan dance... Coming here, many tourists are impressed when immersing themselves in daily life, participating in unique local tourist routes.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Lam, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “The moment of cycling through the fragrant ripe rice fields, then conquering Na Lay peak to see the whole view of Bac Son valley was truly an unforgettable experience for me. Not only that, I also learned how to make yin-yang tiles, wrap black banh chung... these activities made me feel the history and identity of the Tay people in a vivid way”.

In 2024, Bac Son commune attracted nearly 80,600 visitors, an increase of 79.6% compared to 2021, with estimated revenue of 32.22 billion VND. Most of them were tourists coming to Quynh Son Community Tourism Village.

To achieve the above results, the government and the community have focused on improving the quality of tourism products, especially towards international standards. Mr. Phuong Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of Bac Son Commune People's Committee, Head of Quynh Son Community Tourism Site Management Board, said: To meet the criteria of a community tourism village meeting ASEAN standards, the commune has coordinated with relevant units to review and evaluate according to the standards and deployed for 5 homestay tourism service businesses to register to build houses with rooms for tourists to rent according to ASEAN standards; coordinated to organize training for participating households and homestay accommodation service businesses in the area... Currently, we continue to send 9 homestay service businesses to participate in training to improve the quality of community tourism human resources to meet ASEAN standards.

Accordingly, the commune has introduced homestays with the potential to develop into tourist destinations to travel agencies and tourism businesses to link tours. At the same time, it maintains a traditional art performance team to regularly serve tourists. Every year, the commune coordinates with relevant units to open 2 to 4 training courses on tourism skills for homestay representatives in the area.

To manage and develop tourism in the right direction, since 2024, the commune has established the Quynh Son Tourism Cooperative. Mr. Duong Cong Co, owner of Bac Son Homestay, Director of the Quynh Son Tourism Cooperative, said: The Cooperative currently has 12 members, I am the focal point for contacting tourist groups, then sharing benefits, organizing and operating tours, improving service quality and developing new tourism products. At the same time, the Cooperative strengthens brand promotion, preserving cultural and environmental values for effective development of local community tourism.

Located in the UNESCO Lang Son Global Geopark, to ensure tourism develops in harmony with the environment and culture, Quynh Son Community Tourism Village builds a community "For a waste-free Bac Quynh commune" and responds to the "anti-plastic waste" movement.

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion, said: After reviewing and studying the criteria of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), in early 2025, we selected Quynh Son Community Village as a candidate to build a profile for the "Best Tourist Village 2025" award. Then, we conducted a survey, collected information and images; built a script and filmed a video clip about culture, people, natural landscapes... edited and completed the profile to submit to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism for appraisal. Through the review process, the profile was selected by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and registered to run for the "Best Tourist Village 2025" award.
