BHG - The project "Planning for tourism development in Hoang Su Phi district for the period 2017 - 2021, with orientation to 2030" has promoted tourism development through improving the quality of human resources, utilizing tourist routes and destinations, and improving infrastructure in the district.
Nam Hong village in Thong Nguyen commune is a prime example of success in community-based tourism development. Initially a poor area, thanks to investment and development in community tourism, the village has now become an attractive tourist destination. With 28 households operating homestays and 5 resorts, the total annual revenue from community tourism exceeds 3 billion VND, providing a sustainable source of income for local people.

Mr. Trieu Menh Kinh is one of the exemplary households in tourism development in the district. At the end of 2014, with the support of the Helvetas project, he invested over 200 million VND and mobilized family members to contribute labor to build the "Kinh Homestay" tourism model. In 2022, it achieved revenue of over 1 billion VND, and in 2023, it is estimated to reach nearly 2 billion VND, helping to create jobs and increase income for some people in the commune. In 2017, the Nam Hong Community Tourism Cooperative was established with 37 members, chaired by Mr. Trieu Menh Kinh. The cooperative embodies the cultural characteristics of the Dao ethnic group, operating as a chain of services including homestay accommodation, farming and food supply for tourists, tour guiding, motorbike taxi services, and cultural performances showcasing local customs. Participating households are assigned specific tasks according to their abilities and strengths. Currently, the cooperative is recognized as a 4-star OCOP product of Ha Giang province.

Identifying tourism development as one of the key programs and breakthrough goals is to transform the tourism industry into a comprehensively developed economic sector, helping people reduce poverty. Besides directing and managing the effective promotion of the value of historical and cultural relics and heritage sites that have been officially recognized by various levels of government, including 4 provincial-level historical and cultural relics and 2 national relics, the district also possesses rich potential for exploiting its strengths in developing eco-tourism, experiential tourism, and adventure tourism such as: Chiêu Lầu Thi peak, Tây Côn Lĩnh peak, ancient tea gardens, spiritual tourism, terraced rice fields, and traditional cultural activities and festivals held annually. Infrastructure has received significant investment; 100% of communes, towns, and villages have paved roads to their centers; 100% of villages and residential areas have solid cultural houses; and 3 communes have been recognized as achieving standards for new rural development.
It is evident that Hoang Su Phi district is strongly developing its tourism sector. Through the successful organization of the annual Tourism and Culture Week, it has recreated many unique festivals and cultural events of the ethnic groups in the district, such as: the New Rice Offering Ceremony and Khu Cu Te Tet of the La Chi ethnic group; the Quya Hieng and Ban Vuong festivals of the Dao ethnic group; the Gau Tao festival of the Mong ethnic group; the Forest God Worship Ceremony of the Nung ethnic group; and exhibitions of local tourism products... creating a deep impression on visitors and providing an opportunity for the district to promote its image to a wide range of domestic and international tourists.

Nick Nguyen, a tourist from Japan, said: "This is my first time visiting Hoang Su Phi district, and I am very impressed with the beauty of the terraced rice fields during the harvest season. Exploring and experiencing the unique cultural activities is a memorable experience for me."
Community-based tourism activities not only bring economic benefits but also help preserve and promote the cultural values and customs of local communities. They create opportunities for tourists to experience and learn, fostering cultural exchange between ethnic groups and contributing to the sustainable development of the district's tourism industry. From 2020 to the present, Hoang Su Phi district has welcomed 165,670 visitors, including 2,415 foreign tourists; total revenue is estimated at 140.35 billion VND, contributing to local development.
