Lai Chau tourism expects to "take off" from green villages

Possessing green tea hills stretching as far as the eye can see, terraced fields stacked like ladders to the sky..., the values ​​of landscape, culture and people are considered the "golden key" for green, sustainable tourism in Lai Chau to "take off" on the national tourism map.

Fresh air, beautiful scenery, gentle people and especially the extremely interesting experience of picking and drying tea… That is the common feeling of the group of tourists from Bac Ninh province when they first set foot in Tan Uyen commune - a bright spot of green tourism in Lai Chau.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Duong - a tourist from Bac Ninh province shared: "We have a very special impression of this land, because of the wild natural scenery of the village and the green tea hills. I think the potential for developing community tourism from green villages is huge. However, to do that in a sustainable way, there needs to be planning and conservation of local indigenous values."

The beauty of tea hills in Tan Uyen, Lai Chau

Nestled at the foot of the majestic Hoang Lien mountain range, Tan Uyen commune is known not only for its ancient tea plantations stretching over 1,400 hectares, but also for the rich beauty of Hua Cuom terraced fields, natural hot mineral springs, and the diverse cultural space of the ethnic groups living here. In recent years, Tan Uyen commune has emerged as a new destination for sustainable community ecotourism.

Mr. Duong Dinh Duc - Secretary of Tan Uyen Commune Party Committee said: "Determining Tan Uyen as a place where agriculture and tourism can be developed, we have drafted a specialized resolution on solutions for agricultural development associated with green and sustainable tourism according to the chain. The goal of the resolution is to strive for all OCOP products in Tan Uyen commune to achieve 3 stars or more. Second, to attract investors to process agricultural products, increase income for people when participating in this chain, reaching at least 20%".

Tourists coming to Tan Uyen can not only explore the majestic landscape and enjoy the fresh air, but also soak in hot mineral springs, relax in eco-zones such as Tan Uyen Paradise, pine hills, enjoy highland specialties such as bamboo rice, five-color sticky rice, pa pinh top... and immerse themselves in traditional cultural festivals.

Agriculture and green villages are contributing to improving the lives of ethnic minorities in Lai Chau.

According to Mr. Tran Manh Hung - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lai Chau province, in the past term, Lai Chau province has welcomed more than 5 million visitors, including nearly 1 million international visitors. Particularly, the field of cultural tourism associated with green landscapes, including Tan Uyen commune, has contributed positively to this impressive number, thanks to the synchronous development of both infrastructure and quality of tourism services.

Mr. Tran Manh Hung said: "The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is coordinating with Tan Uyen and related agencies to advise the Provincial People's Committee to develop this tea hill area into an eco-tourism area. According to the general direction of the province, the locality will develop the Tan Uyen tea hill tourist area in association with sports activities such as mountain bike racing and marathon races".

In Lai Chau, there are currently nearly 140 accommodation establishments and more than 150 standard restaurants. Accommodation establishments always pay attention to service quality and invest in equipment to attract tourists. Along with that are systems of central markets, highland markets and shopping spots, meeting the increasing needs of domestic and foreign tourists. The potential and advantages of green tourism in Lai Chau are receiving the attention of many travel businesses inside and outside the province.

Along with the route connecting to Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway which is gradually being completed, the convenient regional traffic infrastructure is a factor helping Lai Chau attract more businesses to invest in eco-tourism, resorts and accompanying services. With the joint efforts of the government, businesses and people, Lai Chau is gradually "taking off" to become an attractive destination, making its mark on the national and world tourism map.
