Switzerland's tourism industry continues to receive positive news, with statistics showing that visitors to the country spent a total of 16.6 billion Swiss francs (nearly 18.5 billion USD) last year, a significant increase compared to 2021, although it has not yet returned to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.
According to a report by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, tourist spending in Switzerland in 2022 increased by nearly 50% compared to 2021. This figure is also consistent with previously released data from the hotel industry, which recorded a record 38.2 million overnight stays in Swiss hotels.
Not only did foreigners travel to Switzerland and spend more, but Swiss citizens also spent more abroad in 2022 than in 2021. Earlier this year, many experts predicted the continued recovery of the tourism industry with a large influx of visitors from Asia in 2023 and subsequent years.
