Bringing Ham Rong Bridge and Dong Son ancient village closer to the public.

GD&TĐ - Ham Rong Ward (Thanh Hoa province) has launched a "Beautiful Photos and Tourism Ideas" contest to promote heritage and develop sustainable tourism.

On May 26th, the People's Committee of Ham Rong Ward (Thanh Hoa Province) held a conference to launch the plan for the "Beautiful Photos of Ham Rong" contest and the "Ideas for Tourism Development and Creative Tourism Products in Ham Rong" contest.

The competition aims to select outstanding photographic works to serve the propaganda work on political tasks and socio-economic development; and at the same time, seek creative ideas to exploit tourism potential, build new products, and contribute to promoting the image of Ham Rong.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Ham Rong Ward People's Committee, said that the competition is open to organizations and individuals who are Vietnamese citizens living and working in the country, with no age limit. Entries must be relevant to the local situation in the ward; approximately 50 outstanding photographs are expected to be selected for display.

The deadline for submitting entries is September 30, 2026, and the awards ceremony is expected to be held in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Vice Chairperson of the Ham Rong Ward People's Committee, delivered a speech at the conference.

"Ham Rong currently has many destinations rich in historical and cultural value, such as Dong Son ancient village - the cradle of the thousand-year-old Dong Son culture, C4 hill, Ham Rong bridge… The local authorities are currently constructing about 800m of ancient red brick road leading into the ancient village to create a highlight to attract tourists...", Ms. Thanh shared.

Mr. Le Xuan Giang, former Political Commissar of Company 4, Regiment 228, a direct witness who participated in protecting Ham Rong Bridge during the resistance war against the US, believes that the competition has significant importance in preserving and promoting historical and cultural values; he also suggested highlighting the historical value of Ham Rong Bridge, especially the May 19th milestone at both ends of the bridge.

"The Ham Rong Bridge was built during a period of fierce warfare. Both ends of the bridge are inscribed with the date May 19th to commemorate the inauguration of the bridge in celebration of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday. This is a historical value that needs to be honored and highlighted further," Mr. Giang said.

Mr. Le Xuan Giang, a direct witness who participated in protecting Ham Rong Bridge during the resistance war against the US, shared his experience at the conference.

Commenting on the competition, Mr. Do Quang Trong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, said that Ham Rong is the first of the province's 166 communes and wards to organize a tourism promotion competition. He suggested strengthening communication on digital platforms and in newspapers; and also researching the possibility of organizing more traditional festivals on the Ma River to create new tourism products.

Ham Rong is a land rich in historical and cultural value, a place where unique natural landscapes and heritage converge. Over the years, the local authorities have strived to preserve and promote these values, but to create momentum for sustainable development, it is necessary to strengthen the connection between heritage and modernity, tradition and innovation.

In that spirit, Ham Rong ward organized the competition with the hope of further spreading the image of the locality and inspiring creativity in the community.

The "Beautiful Ham Rong Photos" and "Ideas for Tourism Development and Creative Tourism Products in Ham Rong" contests aim to find creative ideas to promote tourism and enhance the local image.

The competition consists of two categories: “Beautiful Ham Rong Photos” with the theme “Ham Rong - Heritage Region”, for photography enthusiasts to capture the beauty of nature, historical sites, and daily life; and “Ideas for Tourism Development and Creative Tourism Products in Ham Rong”, focusing on tourism exploitation models and products with local identity.

With the message "Don't admire Ham Rong alone - Tell the legend to everyone," the competition is expected to become a bridge to spread the values ​​of the Ham Rong region.

The Organizing Committee proposes focusing on three tasks: ensuring transparency and professionalism in the organization; mobilizing broad participation from organizations, individuals, and local people; and strengthening media coordination among press agencies.

With thorough preparation and the involvement of all levels of government, relevant agencies, and the people, the competition is expected to create a new milestone in promoting and developing tourism in Ham Rong ward.
