Orchids displayed on driftwood are highly sought after by customers in urban areas.

From the beginning of the twelfth lunar month, many gardeners and small traders have been busy transporting flowers to display at spring flower markets. In the Hung Vuong Square area and surrounding streets, rows of stalls are neatly arranged, offering a wide variety of flowers to meet the needs of people for decorating and celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year). Traditional peach blossoms with their diverse shapes and styles remain the main focus. Alongside them are orchids, kumquat trees, chrysanthemums, lilies, and other flowers, providing diversity and catering to various customer segments.

This Lunar New Year, the family of Ms. Le Thu Ha in Hoa Binh ward is supplying the market with many high-quality Da Lat orchid products.

Driving along Nguyen Du Street, the atmosphere of buying and selling Tet flowers is bustling from early morning until late at night. Vendors continuously transport, care for, and adjust each potted flower, shaping the plants to be visually appealing and attractive to buyers. Trucks loaded with fresh flowers come and go in a constant stream, interspersed with lively exchanges and bargaining, giving the streets a fast-paced yet exciting rhythm of life.

This year, the Tet flower market has seen a rich variety of types, especially phalaenopsis orchids and high-end orchids, which are being chosen by many families, agencies, and businesses.

Having been involved in the orchid business for Tet (Lunar New Year) for 17 years, Ms. Le Thu Ha from Hoa Binh ward said: “This year is the first time my family has decided to bring imported Phalaenopsis orchids from Da Lat to sell in Viet Tri ward. Since the beginning of December in the lunar calendar, I have transported about 7,000 orchid plants at an average price of about 260,000 VND per plant. By this time, they are basically all sold out.” According to Ms. Ha, the Tet flower market in Hoa Binh area has always been vibrant, but expanding the business to Viet Tri ward has helped her family reach more customers.

This year's orchid products are meticulously crafted, mostly designed and displayed on driftwood or Bat Trang ceramic pots, enhancing both aesthetics and durability, with a warranty period of up to 3 months. Depending on size, number of stems, and decoration requirements, each orchid pot costs from several million to tens of millions of VND. To meet market demand, the family has mobilized a team of more than 10 skilled craftsmen to graft, shape, and care for the flowers.

Not only orchids, but many traditional flowers also maintain their appeal. Prices generally haven't fluctuated significantly compared to last year, fitting within the spending capacity of most people. Potted chrysanthemums, poinsettias, petunias, etc., range in price from a few hundred thousand to over one million dong, while ornamental peach and kumquat trees have various price segments from a few hundred thousand to several million dong per tree.

According to reporters' observations at flower stalls, the number of visitors and shoppers is increasing day by day. Many families are taking advantage of the opportunity to choose flowers early so they have time to care for them and decorate their homes.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Phong from Binh Nguyen commune shared: “This year the flower market is quite diverse, with many beautiful designs and relatively stable prices. My family chose to buy flowers from the 15th day of the 12th lunar month to have more time to decorate the house and create a warm Tet atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Hoang Nhung, a customer from Nong Trang ward, commented that the quality of flowers this year has improved significantly, especially orchids and imported flowers. "There are many price options, from affordable to high-end, so people can easily choose products that suit their family's budget ," Ms. Nhung said.
