On January 26, during a meeting with the General Secretary and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the positive results of Vietnam-Laos cooperation in recent times and affirmed that the relationship between the two countries continues to develop comprehensively and effectively in many fields.

Political relations are the cornerstone and play a guiding role in overall bilateral cooperation.

Discussing future cooperation directions, the President stated that both sides continue to identify strategic alignment in political relations as the cornerstone and overall guiding principle for bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, the two countries will strengthen defense and security cooperation, contributing to maintaining political stability, social order, and safety in each country; coordinate to accelerate the progress of key cooperation projects, resolve difficulties and obstacles, and create new breakthroughs in economic , trade, and investment cooperation.

In addition, both sides agreed to continue to coordinate closely in organizing activities to commemorate major national holidays in a practical, effective, and in-depth manner; strengthen the exchange of positions on strategic issues; and coordinate and support each other in multilateral forums.

The two leaders expressed their pleasure and confidence that, building on the solid foundation of the special solidarity between the two countries, characterized by "both comrades and brothers," along with high-level shared understandings, intertwined interests, and significant achievements made in the past, the relationship between the two countries will continue to deepen, meeting the requirements of development in the new era.

Discussing bilateral cooperation, the two leaders agreed that in the coming period, both sides need to continue to promote cooperation more strongly, effectively, and substantively, so that economic cooperation becomes a strong pillar, commensurate with the special level of political trust between the two countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening the linkages between the two economies, especially the strategic infrastructure links in transportation, energy, and logistics.

The Prime Minister suggested that both sides coordinate effectively to satisfactorily resolve and remove difficulties, creating favorable conditions to support and promote the implementation of large-scale investment projects, and maintain dialogue between Vietnamese businesses and relevant Lao agencies.

At the same time, the Prime Minister also requested the Lao side to create favorable conditions to attract large, potential Vietnamese enterprises to invest in areas where Laos has strengths, especially in the Laos-Vietnam border region; and to invest in building processing and manufacturing plants to increase added value and meet domestic demand in Laos.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will continue to encourage and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest effectively and sustainably in Laos.


He also suggested that both sides strengthen coordination to resolve difficulties and obstacles, creating a favorable environment for bilateral trade, especially border trade, with the goal of increasing two-way trade turnover to 5-10 billion USD in the near future.

The head of the Vietnamese government emphasized the importance of strengthening transportation infrastructure links between Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to promote economic, trade, and investment ties among the three economies.

Both sides agreed to continue strengthening close cooperation in the field of defense and security, maintaining political stability, social order and safety, and ensuring security and safety in the border region.

In addition, both sides will strengthen coordination in preventing and combating transnational crimes, especially drug trafficking, human trafficking, and high-tech crimes.

Later that afternoon, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with the General Secretary and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith.

Regarding cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the Speaker of the National Assembly suggested that the two legislative bodies continue to strengthen close coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums, especially within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the AIPA General Assembly, thereby contributing to enhancing the position and common voice of developing countries in the international arena.

According to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to strengthen high-level delegation exchanges, share legislative and supervisory experiences, and promote effective implementation of signed cooperation agreements; support Laos in international and regional forums.


At the same time, close coordination is needed to overcome difficulties and expand new areas of cooperation such as the digital economy, green energy transition, infrastructure connectivity, and education and training, in line with the orientations following the 12th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese National Assembly is also ready to share its experience in the field of digital transformation, building a digital parliament, and applying artificial intelligence in its activities.

The Speaker of the National Assembly proposed strengthening cooperation and regular exchanges between the Committees of the National Assemblies, the National Assembly Offices, and agencies under the National Assemblies of the two countries.

In addition, promoting exchanges between National Assembly delegates, especially young delegates, will create conditions for the younger generation of both countries to gain a deeper understanding of the special solidarity, great friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, according to the Speaker of the National Assembly.

During the talks, the General Secretary and President of Laos highly agreed with the exchanges and proposals of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on strengthening cooperation between the two National Assemblies.

The General Secretary and President of Laos expressed his wish for the parliaments of the two countries to continue to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences in the fields of legislation and supreme oversight, especially in the implementation of bilateral economic cooperation agreements, particularly key cooperation projects.
